Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
[FONT=Times New Roman][SIZE=3]Fans read into every play of the preseason, hoping to catch a glimpse of their team’s potential that season. But every year we watch several teams go 0-4 or 1-3 in the preseason, only to turn around and make the playoffs in the regular season. And for every one of those teams, there is a team that goes 4-0 or 3-1 in the August warmups, only to tank in the regular season. So if win-loss record doesn’t help us evaluate anything, what signs of progress can we look for to properly evaluate the team in the preseason? The following guidelines may help shine light on the key areas of interest.

I think you'd be better than half of the talking heads on ESPN, Scheed. I might have to print this out and bring it with me to the game to keep focused. Good work.

Great points. Maybe it'll help people calm down a little bit.

Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
Good call. I'm not sure I'd even put that much stock into the preseason. I'm just sick and tired of people who think wins and losses in the preseason means anything.
A lot of people get paid to tell us they do. |
Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
remember, we did go 4-0 in pre season in spurrier's first season and look what happened. pre-season is just to get players back in the flow, winning and losing isnt important in the pre season, especially since backups play 80% of the game

Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
Right. Also remember that Spurrier was running like reverses and trick plays to run up the scores. The teams that are winning by a lot in preseason might be giving away more than we know.

I'm confused!
Do I begin drinking heavily, or focus on the nuances? I can't do both! (sets glass down!) |

Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
hey schneed, excellent read. especially the drinking heavily reference, everyone should keep that in mind. i was just getting on a friend of mine( who is a raider fan) about the preseason , when our second and third teamers looked like they couldnt compete with a good high school teaml

Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
Speaking of heavy drinking, I'm buying one of those mini-Heineken keg things. Anyone had those yet?
|
Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
Preseason is just that....
|
Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
my buddy bought himself one of those things for an all day concert/tailgate that we had in college. He just walked around with it in one hand and a plastic cup in the other and got trashed. I can't even imagine how hot it must have been by the end of the day.

Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
HAHAHAHA! How many beers does it have?
|
Re: Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance
I have no idea, I'm betting quite a few, at least for one person.
