Patten's T-Rex arms

I just brought this up in another thread but it bears discussion on its own.

How 'bout Patten's sudden, nasty habit of short arming catchable balls? Looks like to me that we have a case of an older WR, coming off a season side-tracked by injury, that sees a big time player get hurt in pre-season and decides he doesn't want to take a nasty shot. Could just be paranoia on my part, but that would certainly fit. Patten is pretty reliable when he is healthy. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for him to dump two catchable balls just minutes apart unless he is hearing footsteps.

What say ye?

I don't know if I agreed with Riggin's comments honestly. I thought those balls weren't catchable. I think he could have made more of an effort, but they looked like VERY tough catches.

Sigh. The attack on David Patten continues.

He dropped one short pass. Espy dropped like four. But it's Patten that people are ready to throw out of town.

I honestly don't understand the hatred for Patten.

Espy really played bad. he dropped balls that hit him rigth between the #s. Pattens play was not near as bad as Espys.

Espy isn't David Patten any more than Ryan Leaf is Joe Montana.

Man I am glad someone else noticed this. It does seem that he has such a short leash with most of the fans. I say, we have paid him give him a true shot.

My vote for best thread title " T-Rex arms" wow, you are wild son.

What is goin on people? Patten on the sideline he could have dove for that , very catchable. Despite the talent he has, its really a case of what have you dont for me lately. Injured last season, sick this training camp, he has to step up if that means he has to dirty his uniform and dive so be it. This is obviously a case where he knows he is secure in job security and doesnt take the effort.

Re: Patten's T-Rex arms

Espy will continue to drop balls as long as he continues to try and catch the ball with his body instead of his hands (the ball needs to be in your hands not your numbers). This is a mechanical thing that can be relatively easily corrected.

Patten's issues are different and are much more difficult to address.

I don't see Patten as being in jeopardy for a roster spot at all.

Young guys really need to impress Gibbs to make the team over a vet, to this point Espy has been ok, but he hasn't done enough to overtake Patten or Thrash.

Re: Patten's T-Rex arms

not sure it was that catchable, as the ball was underthrown. but with the emergence of Jimmy Farris and his skill on Special Teams, I just can't see Patten being around at the end of training camp. He'll catch on for someone else, but with the likes of Moss, Lloyd, Randel El, Thrash and Farris, I just don't see Patten staying in the mix.

It was catchable. He was scared of that safety. I see Patten as expendable he better lay out for that next time. This isnt the Washington Pattens, show some effort if he says he is willing to rebound.

farris isnt good...he proved that last year

one good preseason game doesnt mean anything

Farris?

Dude did nothing last year and had a ball bounce right off his mask from Campbell vs. the Bengals.

I'd rather keep Espy. As it stands I don't see either guy beating out Patten or Thrash, IMO.
