It's always a given that someone responds before I can even get the poll posted.

The hammer is in my hand ready to break the glass. We looked horrible last night. Offense didn't do shit, defense didn't do shit, backup defense didn't do shit, nobody did shit. It's one thing to say it was just one game, but this has been happening the whole preseason. Our starting offense hasn't even scored a touchdown yet. We've looked bad across the board. I still have a little hope that things are gonna change one the regular season starts. It's just that this team hasn't shown me anything to believe that might happen.

I'm close, but not quite there yet.

On one hand, the coaches are using the preseason to learn about the team. Saunders is finding ways to isolate players in one-on-one situations to see how they'll perform. He's not doing any scheming whatsoever, he's revealed 2% of the playbook, so he says. Trouble is our guys are rarely winning those matchups. No matter what kind of scheming the coaches are doing, you hope that your lineman can be more physical, your WRs can be quicker, and your defenders can tackle with some authority.

I think the coaches are trying to find out what the players are capable of. The answers they're getting don't look good at all. So yes, I'm very concerned.

Are you just going on blind faith? Or can you offer some sort of analysis or reasoning as to why there is no reason to worry?

There are two pieces that now have me seriously concerned and with hammer in hand:

1.) No one seems to be able to identify what the real, underlying problem is with this team.
2.) Every single aspect of the game is failing. It isn't just the offense. It isn't just the defense. It isn't just the special teams. It isn't just our depth. It isn't just our starters. We can't block, tackle, run, pass, catch or kick. It really feels like this team is in a fog.

Re: Panic button poll

I would be concerned IF:

We had any turnovers last night - we had none
We had any major injuries last night - we had none

It looks like a team lost it's top threat in the 1st game to injury and it looks a team is not really trying to force anything to happen beyond evaluating young talent. Maybe it doesn't look like much on SportsCenter, but I am way more interested in having 53 healthy players and our amazing coaching staff ready to face Minnesota in week 1 than looking sharp in preseason week 3. Last nights game aside, we really hadn't done that bad in preseason. We're 0-3, but in good company with another playoff favorite... Superbowl Champion Pittsburg Steelers.

I'll start worrying in week 4-5 of the regular season, not week 3 of the preseason.

Re: Panic button poll

Mark me down as not worried.

I was burned back in Spurrier's first season. I bought into the preseason hype hook, line, and sinker. After that I promised myself I would never buy into any preseason hype, no matter how good or bad it is.

Gibbs' resume includes plenty of preseason disasters followed by plenty of winning seasons, some of those that included Super Bowls.

I don't call it blind faith, I call it trusting a man who's been there, done that, and trusting that history does indeed repeat itself.

Re: Panic button poll

The only problem that I see so far is effort. Our defense has excelled mostly with effort and schemes. I would feel better if we had competed, but at no point yesterday did I see the Skins compete.

Offensively it's the same thing, effort. Giving up sacks to four man pressures, dropped passes, receivers not getting open, nothing is working.

The only bright spot is that none of these games has counted thus far. When the lights go on for real, we'll see what pops.

Looking for the button.
New system takes time, yet we must have some concern. Here we are, basically done with preseason, and yet to have a decent 1st team drive. How are we to know if its the "vanilla" "2%" "dont show your hand" stuff or not? I would think with our 1st two poor showings we would have opened up the playbook alittle bit.
I believe we will struggle for a bit early this year. But with our talent, players and coaching, by week 5 or so we should be ok. Just hope we can get a couple Ws along the way.

Hammer in hand.....not worrying yet but there is reason to be cautious.

Hammer in hand.
The preseason stats that scare me most: Mark Brunell has led the first-strong offense to 0 points and he has a QB rating of 48.1.
If Brunell falters in the Vikings game, Gibbs should pull him as quickly as he pulled Ramsey last season. Let's face it, at some point we're going to have to swallow the medicine and start Campbell. I'd rather do it early on and take our lumps than start 0-3 with an ailing Brunell.

Re: Panic button poll

None of the Poll Options seem to apply for me, so I couldn't choose. The Offense seems out of sync and has little rhythm, even when executing the basic so-called "vanilla" offense, which is somewhat disturbing to me. However, we still have two weeks to get an effective rushing game for the Vikings game (which should be enough), and three weeks to get our passing game down for the CowPukes (which we'll in order need to win).
