History Lesson
So if anyone wants to learn about the history of our team today, err, I mean the history of the Miami Hurricanes, lol....Every Hurricanes/Seminoles game since the 80's is playing on ECL today. The college ESPN station.
And of course, dont forget to watch the game tonight at 8. Ya never know what Cane we may draft next. Some key players to watch: Greg Olsen - The next stud TE. Brandon Merriwhether and Kenny Phillips, the best tandem of safties in the league, both will be 1st round picks. Kenny is supposed to be a hybrid Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Atkins - Stud defensive linemen. Kyle Wright - The QB with a young group of unproven receivers. Basically anyone on defense is worth watching, they have one of the top defenses in college football. Their receivers are going to be the question mark. The canes have an entierly new coaching staff this year, with the exception of Larry Coker. The lack of offensive production caused him to clean house. |
Re: History Lesson
I was supposed to go to this game...but waited to long to get my plane ticket...oh well. Atleast Ill be at the Skins game next Monday.
Work is sending me to Maryland for a week. Coincidently I picked the week of Sept 11th a few months ago! |
Re: History Lesson
They just finished the 1987 game. Where the seminoles were winning 19-3 at the end of the 3rd qtr, and the Canes came back. With two miniutes left Walsh through a 73 yd touchdown pass to take a 7 pt lead. FSU then drove down the field, scored, and missed the two pt conversion...
Jimmy Johnson was the coach, and Michael Irvin was the MVP... I hate that they both went to Dallas, but one of the biggest reasons he was successful in the NFL was because of his ability to scout talent. |
Re: History Lesson
i was kind of in limbo as far as a college team until the redskins started stockpiling ex hurricanes. im a fan of the U now. i believe if you come from the U of miami your probably pretty much ready for the NFL

Re: History Lesson
Theres an article in this months Mens Health called "Train like a Cane"
its about why all the players return to Miami in the offseason instead of training with their teams, and about the workout program they instill there. |
Re: History Lesson
I'm watching it now, and looks like it's going to be another low scoring game.
Miami has to have the ugliest uniforms in the history of human civilization. Come on, orange and green? Do you think this'll be Coker's last year, assuming they go 9-3 or something? |
Re: History Lesson
I am sure SkinsNCanes is feeling great right now. Less than 3 mins left, and down by 3.
|
Re: History Lesson
How about this for a final stat:
Combined rushing yards totals for both teams ... 3 yards. That's either great run defense, or horrible rushing offense. Bobby Bowden is still only 13-19 against Miami. Overall, the Hurricanes have always had the 'Noles number. |
Re: History Lesson
SKINSnCANES is in mourning today.
|
Re: History Lesson
That's the last time you'll see two top teams play in Week 1. Clearly they both needed to play a game against an inferior opponent first to work out against.

Re: History Lesson
Yeah, this meeting moves back to October next year...thank God.
Remember that rushing yards in college include sacks...but even then, the Seminoles run for like 5 yards on 18 carries, while the 'Canes ran 17 times for 24 yards. Neither team moved the ball with any efficiency, with both teams going horrifically long stretches without a First Down (Noles the 2nd quarter, the 'Canes almost the entire 2nd half). After making the game 10-3, the 'Canes were held to 8 yards of Total offense. Both teams have incredible defenses, and have potential on offense. But this first week nonsense thankfully stops after this year. While FSU can just about hit cruise control (they play Troy, Rice and Duke in the next 5 games), Miami has to hope for some help with 1 conference loss already. |
Re: History Lesson
In recent years, the 'Noles have been good for an unexpected loss to UNC, Virginia or NC State. It looks like it'll be FSU and Va Tech in the ACC championship game though.

Miami has an easy scheudle this year...and if they beat VT will play the Seminoles again. With that being said.... I almost threw a remote at the TV last night when the commentator said, and I quote "If Miami ends up losing this game, you cant fault Larry Coker, hes done an amazing job turning this program around and makign them a respectable team"...or somethign to that effect. That statement is such bullshit, before Larry Coker showed up, we didnt lose. I mean flat out didnt lose, always made big pays, had stud players. Coker rode out the rest of Butch Davis's recruits and put up a great career record for himself, but his recuites suck. There are a couple good guys, but he just isnt getting the talent anymore. So yea, he suspended like four starters from playing in the first game, including our number 1 receiver and running back. But so what, we lost. Yea Sean Taylor spits, and Ray Lewis had his issues, and blah blah, but they can freaking play football... |
