Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
Anyone else annoyed at the schedule makers giving the Redskins only 6 days before going TO Dall-ass? It seems like we are always going there at a disadvantage. Maybe I'm just being a bitch, but it is such a huge game early and we'll be coming off of a Monday night game. I hate the cowboys.

Re: Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
I'm glad that this year for the first time I can remember, we will have played both games with them before Thanksgiving. We won't have a meaningful game (by that I mean a game that could determine a playoff spot) late in the season in Dallas. Through the years though it has always seemed one way or another there's some form of disadvantage when it comes to playing them. I'm always reminded of when they first came in the league I could never understand how they got to be in the NFC east anyway, but that's for another discussion.

Even though it doesnt make much geographical sense, thank god the league did put them in the nfl east, or else sports would have been robbed of one of its most compelling rivalries. |
Re: Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
I am not worried about the 6 days and less worried about to. not convinced he is completely healthy not to mention him and bledsoe really havent developed much of a chemistry together. Anxious to see mr taylor welcome mr owens to the skins/boys rivalry. Its not quite the same as it was when i was a kid but i think its the best rivalry in the nfl.

Re: Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
It will be a tough game if we lose next Monday to the Vikings, otherwise it won't matter much. Yes it is a short week, but we get a Monday night HOME opener. After the game our guys don't have to travel, except back to their houses. Plus, a 7pm start, makes for an early night. Remember when Monday football started at 9pm? The guys needed Tuesday off just to rest. If we win and go basically injury free, then all is well!

Re: Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
A Monday home game (especially this one, that will be over by 10:30 pm), isn't much more difficult than a Sunday road game. It's basically a little less prep time for the players, but the coaching staff (some of them, anyway) are already working on Dallas.

Ours was really early last year (week 3 or 4 I think) but I wouldn't say it hurt us too much. Maybe if it had come after some loses we could have regrouped and actually won the divison. But, at the same time, if it had come late it could have messed up our winning streak. So, bascially I'm just talking out of my ass right now. |

What's interesting is how the league came to the decision to put them in the NFC east origionally. In 1960 there were conspiracy theories involving top Dallas officials along with former comissioner Pete Rozelle to put Dallas in the NFC east because in so doing at the time felt it would give them the best opportunity to be successful. Tex Schramm who headed the Cowboys at the time had hired Pete Rozelle as his PR man in LA before moving to Texas. The stage had been set for Dallas to become a league darling, and it continued up to the point where they have been refered to as "America's Team". They were an interesting group from the time they entered the league because they were playing computerized football in 1960. However, their games with the Redskins were just an afterthought until George Allen arrived and the true rivalry began. |

That is a great history lesson LongtimeFan.
But what about the "legend of the song" part involving George Preston Marshall. |
Re: Schedule gripe regarding Cowboys game
Another thing i noticed in the scheduling, which i think is good. The furthest we go west is in week 2 Dallas.. so there is not a long distance flight or anything. So we dont play any west coast teams away.. which i think is good
