What must Brunell do?

There has been more than a bit of Brunell bashing over the last few weeks. He got a bit of a reprieve after the Texans game, but there are still questions. Now we face the Jags, a team that has held some good offenses in check and Peyton Manning to around a 50% completion rate.

My question is this:
What do you expect from Brunell against the Jags so that you won't be calling for his head after the game?

Get the ball out quickly to the guys who can make plays, don't force things, and hope that the defense rises up and plays their best game of the year. It's going to be hit and miss against the Jacksonville defense. Opportunistic patience.

Re: What must Brunell do?

I actually disagree, 70Chip. Brunell needs to force some things. Part of the problem with Brunell is he's often so safe with the ball that we can't convert because our receivers don't have a 10 step lead on the DB. Brunell is going to have to make some big throws into coverage for us to win this game. We're going against a hard hitting defense, but you can wear them down. While the short passing game is great for some of the game, we need to take a strike or two down field to loosen em' up a little.

If he can convert 50% of 3rd downs and ZERO INTs, we will win this game.

If Brunell won a Superbowl for us, most fans would still be calling for his head. Some people will just never lay off Brunell.

When someone told me that the backup QB is always the most popular, I never really believed them until the last few years.

i like mark brunell let me say that, i hope he stays the starter the whole season. but for ppl to be satisfied he must:

1. Convert 3rd downs
-Aside from the Texans game, it was 3 and out central
2. Continue to not make mistakes
3. Let our playmakers make the plays. gotta get them the ball, simple as

yeah... its just a bunch of unprovoked harassment... I mean, any QB that can beat the Texans is OK by me... I mean.. its not like we expect our QB to carry more than a 40 passer rating against actual contending teams or anything...

wow, bunch of fairweather bandwagon fans these fuckers are...

All right, for real, I don't think this is just a case of calling for the head of the QB for no reason... I think he plays scared and he's not a take-charge QB that we need to run a High-Powered offense....

I see him coming off the field with that wince after every 3 & out, and I want to slap him in the head and scream at him to grow some fucking balls and man-handle a D like he has the potential to play this GAME.

I would like to see him succeed, but I don't want to die by his hand this year...

I think he's too careful as well, but I don't know that Jacksonville is the best team to turn gunslinger against. One quick change and the game gets away from you. Your point is well taken though. I have screamed at the TV more than once this year, "For God's sake just throw it, man!".

What must Brunell do? Don't botch QB-Center exchanges, don't fumble, give the ball to Clinton and give it to him some more. Finally, when he has to throw, he shouldn't throw it to a defensive player.

Re: What must Brunell do?

In order to beat the Jags he has to stand in the pocket long enough to allow the recievers to break free downfield, unfortunatly Brunell will be running backwards before the first snap. The problem that will encure this week that didn't happen last week is that the Jags will take away all those little dink and dunk pass plays and force Brunell to throw downfield knowing he can't, or wont in the presence of there D-line, I think we will see a lot of quick throws to players who have no chance for a first down, or he will throw it away before anyone has a chance to close in on him.

The basic game plan for anyone who plays us, force Brunell to beat you deep, no one believes he can, or that he is even willing to try. Goodluck running this week Clinton without a downfield passing game your going to need it.

Re: What must Brunell do?

he has to help the offense win the game. If he only does those crappy dump off passes an they continue to work, i'll deal with that. if he continues to use dump offs while going 3 and out time and time again, i'll be mad...

i'd really like to see some bombs away regardless, as i can't see the texan's game plan working here.

Re: What must Brunell do?

not turn the ball over. our defense against the jags offense is a good matchup for us. lets play field position with them and hope frost keeps up the good kicking. the whole kicking game for the skins could be the key
