Free Kick/Kick Off

Most of you know that Frost went off on the fact that either he kicked the ball before the refferee signaled or that an illegal free kick was made. I believe the rules state that any kick off shall be from a tee. When they asked Frost why he was taking a punt/free kick he just said "I was doing what the coaches told me."

No one seems to have questioned this and what coach does not know this rule? Seems our high salaried coaching staff does not know the rules? Anybody have any thoughts on this?

stupid concurence of events, but it's really not our biggest problem right now.

I agree.

That was just indicative of the season so far.

The illegal free kick definitely is not our biggest problem, but it is indicative of a team in total disarray. We look like a high school team out there.

Per the WP, the coaches took credit for screwing that up:
Gibbs said the Redskins should not have sent Derrick Frost out to punt from the 5-yard line Sunday after penalties pushed back a kickoff. The team thought it could take a free kick, but was wrong.
But you can't have your kicker taking his helmet off losing his cool like that, which backed us up even more. Lack of discipline this year over last year.

To mitigate this problem, the Redskins have announced that they're installing a new tactic for disciplining their players

Did not say this, I just asked a simple question. Alot of you on this site always want to look past a thing like this and say "This is not a Big Issue" It is not a big issue but a question of who was responsible. No way was it a stupid concurence of events but more like a stupid move by a coach who has been failing us over and over (Danny Smith)

Re: Free Kick/Kick Off

i dont understand any of this,I thought frost lost his cool before they were backed up to the 5 yrd line, the penalty on him is what backed us up to the 5,so why does the article say he shouldnt have sent frost out there to punt from the 5? I dont understand sending frost out to punt anyway, most kickoffs travel 55-65 yrds, how often does frost punt that far?maybe they wanted the hangtime?

Re: Free Kick/Kick Off

you can't punt in that situation, it has to be a kickoff (from a tee). and gibbs took the blame for it, for whatever that means.

You can use a punter (punt or the obsolete dropkick) for a free kick AFTER A SAFETY...but not after a penalty or after a TD or FG.

How could the coaches not know this? I know this and I never even played football!

I don't think you can use a tee after a safety though, it must be punted or kicked off with a holder. I think that's the rule...

this has been our biggest concern this year from the start.....
no continuity with the overall team.....unlike a joe gibbs lead football team but this year they simply don,t have it ....

the season in a nutshell all in one game sunday..overall piss poor play all the way around outside of the return by randle el.

in frost case all i said is what in the hell is he going so bezerk over while taking his helmet off out came the flag......
