John Riggins asked Gibbs....

if Portis is getting beatup. He even hinted that Portis could be on a down slide in his NFL career.

Portis is only in his 5th season.

I think Riggins needs to slow down on his drinking.

portis is beat up, but I don't think he's gettin any worse. He looked better in Denver because of their scheme (ypc and tds) but you can barely tell his shoulder is an issue while he's running.

John Riggins is in love with TJ Duckett. When they first signed Duckett, Riggins was basically saying Duckett should be a starter in this league, and should be the starter here in the future. Apparently every running back has to be over 250 pounds, since he was.

His playing weight was under 250.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that he feels he should be the starter now and in the future. I listen to his radio show and was listening to it the day they traded for Duckett. I don't remember him ever saying anything to the effect of "Duckett should be the starter."

Now, he does state his displeasure for the trade on occasion.

Re: John Riggins asked Gibbs....

Duckett should be at least the number 2 guy. I like betts, and he's a viable reciever out of the backfield, but Duckett is like Bettis. He's big and strong, and he has deceptively quick feet.

Did you see the Indy game>>?Betts looked very good as a RB and WR catching balls,Duckett is nothing more than a Goal line back or 3rd down back-

Re: John Riggins asked Gibbs....

agreed CTT, Betts should be no.3 or even straight up replaced by Cartwright and save us some roster space.

Betts is pretty meaningless to me, we need Thunder and Lightning and drive defenses nuts. not Thunder, Lightning, and Static Electricity.

Remember Gerald Riggs? That's who Duckett should become.
I think we haven't seen more of Duckett because of learning the system. I hope that's it anyway...otherwise, what was the point of the trade?

For anyone thinking Portis is on the dowside of his career...WHAT????? Everyone gets dinged up, Portis just happens to be a focal point of our offense since the passing game sucks. Get the passing game working and all of a sudden Portis will take a back seat in this discussion.

He didn't specifically say that he should be the starter, but he said on several occasions that a guy like Duckett that has payed his dues as a backup and was a first round pick should be a starter in this league, and that Duckett should be looking for starting job "whether in Washington or somewhere else". He even made a comment similar to that to Duckett when he interviewed him, and Duckett sang the company line and said he was just happy to be here and hoped he could help contribute.

Riggins is pushing the envelope...it works for Rush and other right wingers on radio, it might work for him too.

Re: John Riggins asked Gibbs....

he's just looking for ratings by saying stupid things. portis's problem is that he's running with 9 in the box every down since no one is worried about being beat deep.

Portis looks fine, though he did get banged up a bit against Indy.

If anything, he needs more work.

Bettis is a stud compared to Duckett. Duckett is slow and big, he is no Bettis thats for sure. It is how it should be....portis, betts, duckett. We made a mistake with duckett, the only good thing is we know it..........I'd much rather give the ball to Sellars for that matter.
