It's January 2007 and You're Joe Gibbs

So let's play team President, or whatever it is Joe Gibbs does these days.

You sit down with your staff, Vinny C. included, and you go over a list of possible names that won't be here come training camp '07.

Here are my names of people that won't be a Redskin in 2007.

Warrick Holdman
Nick Novak
Reynaldo Wynn
Derrick Frost
Archuletta (Boy, I wish they could trade this guy)
Mike Rumph (PP will make him expendable)
Khary Campbell or Jeff Posey or McCune (take your pick)

*****************************************
Players that will have to compete for their starting job:

Mark Brunell (this is a given)
Jon Jansen (of course, barring a trade or draft pick)
Casey Rabach (can't pick a blitz to save his life)
Joe Salave'a (he's just about lost it already to Golston)

Please opine.

no way aa leaves next season. the highest paid saftey in the league doesn't get released, even if he is terrible. too much of a cap hit

Re: It's January 2007 and You're Joe Gibbs

We're stuck with AA for a while, alas.

We need a pass-rushing replacement for Daniels. We could use a better MLB, in my opinion. And we need more depth and continutity in the secondary, somehow.

On offense, we need a decent backup to Campbell, depth (and even competition!) on the o-line, and I'm not sold on Furia. But I think good QB play will make a big difference with this group, as well as another season learning the nuances of Saunders system.

The D is a bigger problem, but if Rocky emerges, we've got decent LBs, Griffen and a platoon of blue collar guys at DT, Carter (who I'm still dreaming will somehow get better), Taylor, Springs, Rogers. AA hurts a lot, and the "no name" guys have to get back to over-acheiving or we're in trouble. We need to get a pass rusher somehow, though I don't know how much cap space we have to do that.

No, I realize we're stuck with AA - that was a wish list sort of thing with him. I really don't think the D is aging. Springs and Daniels...who else is well into their thirties. Even Springs isn't really considered old yet.

Holdman is not a starter and apparently neither is McIntosh.

I really hope we'll see Rocky get a shot once the reality of our season sinks in. He's got to get some seasoning and expereince before next year. I know these guys trust their vets, but it's time.

with this team always running so close to the cap...there will be atleast one guy lost that no one will see coming, expect to see an entirely new redskins team next year, just like always

Move Archuleta to weak side linebacker in place of Holdman. If all he can do is hold the run, then put him in a place where that is sorely needed.

griffin will be 30 by the end of the year, salave'a in his 30s, holdman 31, marshall will be 30 in december, vincent is 35 or something, renaldo wynn is 32 i think. most of our depth is old i suppose and about half of our starters. even marcus washington is 29, so is archie, so this really isnt a young defense

Re: It's January 2007 and You're Joe Gibbs

Taylor is in his early 20s, so is Rogers, so is Golston. Arch is 28...and Carter is in his late 20s. And 30 isn't old at all.

Holdman, Wynn, Salave'a may not be starting or not on the team all together.

So I maintain, that the defense isn't aging in NFL terms.

i would try as hard as i could,to get a halfway decent kicker to replace mr inconsistently, john hall.renaldo wynn, holdman,i'd let them go to.i'd let AA go but he's gonna be around awhile thanks to the salary cap!

Gibbs and Synder need to quit playing fantasy football and stick with a good core. If I were Gibbs I would hold as many workouts as possible and pressure the offense to stay in town and get to know the "O" like the back of their hand.
