Rocky McIntosh getting some playing time

After all the waiting, McIntosh is finally seeing some real playing time. In the last two games, Holdman has started but has given way to McIntosh in the second half. I see this as an important developement that not many people seem to be talking about. It looks like Williams is not comfortable enough to start Rocky until he understands what the opposing defense is going to try to do. Once the opposing team settle more into thier base routine, Williams brings in Rocky off the bench. I finally saw Rocky make a solid tackle on defense (not just special teams).

I guess I'd like to say that we didn't have to hear his name much while he was playing against the NFL's highest ranked offense. In my opinion that was a good thing because it means he wasn't getting burnt.

How soon will we see him in next weeks game?

The coaches are full of shit. They must have an agenda because every time they give some excuse, it is a lie. Holdman is garbage. A guy who is out of position who occasionally makes a play is better than a guy who is in position who cannot tackle.

It is idiotic for Rocky to be on the bench at this point.

That has been the story for a while, but this time he was in the game with the game on the line. He must be making progress even in thier eyes. That said, he did appear to make a stop watching the ball while getting to his assignment on one play. The pass sailed over his head for a first down while he was trying to go cover the RB coming out of the backfield.

what the heck do the skins have to lose by playing the rookie? they already know what holdman brings, so lets find out if this kid can play at this level

Of course, the other way of looking at that is if his name does get mentioned, it could be because of him making plays.

Usually, the names you generally don't want to hear are offensive linemen. When they're doing their job, opening up big running lanes, keeping the QB upright, they rarely get the glory. But if they're getting beaten, called for holding or false starts, then everyone knows.

Nothing too lose. They must be really down on Rocky to still be so cautious with the season already gone. Either that or they are just ultra conservative. I tend to think that it is the later given how long they babied Campbell.

If anything, I have to say the few times I've seen Rocky, he sheds blocks like crazy and is super quick to the ball. It seems they never run to his side when he's in.

Actually Holdman is in position most of the time. He just get's beat at the point of attack or misses the tackle. I think what the coaches are worried about with Rocky is that when he's out of position it messes up the scheme. I personally think Rocky should have been starting from day one. But one thing GW does not seem to tolerate is mental errors.

There could be a work ethic issue holding Rocky back. I recall reading recently the coaches told him to hit the playbook harder in order to earn playing time.

From the outside looking in, it just seems absurd that they could be so high on a guy coming into the NFL, throughout training camp, and yet he get's no playing time to speak of.

The whole argument that Holdman is always in 'position' is just beyond me at this point. For two years running, opposing offenses have made it a point to run at that side of our defense. Being in position, and making plays are two different things.

I think it's that one single mind set that has the Redskins on the verge of breaking an NFL record for lowest turnovers. Yes, you have to be smart and disciplined, but you have to be able to make plays on the ball in the today's NFL.

Look around the NFL, the trend on the defensive side of the ball is starting to mirror the changes we're seeing at the quarterback position. Coaches are letting young guys learn and earn their stripes on the job. I think all or most of the linebackers drafed right ahead of Rocky are at least starting or getting significant playing time.

I'm kinda glad that Shawn Merriman ended up San Diego where he's making a tremendous impact. If he was drafted by the Skins, we somehow would have figured out a way to keep him on the bench and let him 'earn' his way into the starting line up until he learned the playbook.

All logic would point to McIntosh not being ready to play, but with this administration all logic flies out the window (*cough* Brunell *cough*).

You're right, but I think if were another player or rookie it would be the same so called logic.

Of course. I mean look at what an athlete Taylor is. Remember how long it took him to crack the starting line-up? That's something I totally disagree with in how GW manages the talent.
