Bill Cowher Resigns; HOF worthy?

Assuming his career is done in the NFL, is he going to make the Hall of Fame?

I say definitely. They were a winning team more often that not and he won a ring. Also, loyalty should count for something. He was there forever!

He's a lock I would think.

I think an important additional factor is that he got to the big game more than once. Billick has similar stats, but even if he maintains that for another 7 years, he's only gotten the Ravens even close to the Super Bowl in the year that they won it, and I wouldn't consider him to be an HoF'er.

Holmgren has almost identical stats, and with only two teams. He's gotten to the Super Bowl 3 times, and I really think that militates in his favor.

I think coaches need to have more than one SB ring honestly. He'll get consideration but even the great Madden didn't get in until 20 years later with broadcasting help.

I can't see a legitimate case for keeping him out- he's got the longevity, the wins, the conference titles, and the ring. That's pretty much it.

I'd vote him in

He's an easy lock. 10 playoff appearances, 8 division titles, 2 Super Bowl appearances, 1 Super Bowl win. And he'll be back to add to that soon enough.

I guess there's some coaches in with only one win. I'd vote him in but I am not as sure he is a lock like some think.

Why would he not be a lock??

Look at what the guy has done, add in the fact he's done it in Pittsburgh which is notoriously stingy with their cap and it's even more remarkable.

Including the playoffs his overall record is 161-99-1. Add in his division titles (8) and playoff appearances (10) and I think his resume speaks for itself regarding the Hall of Fame.

yes, he gets in. isnt hank stram in? how many super bowls did he win? how about madden?

Re: Bill Cowher Resigns; HOF worthy?

Ya know? I wouldn't go so far as to call it a lock. Art Monk should have been a lock too, and to date, he hasn't been enshrined.

As for Cowher, though, 15 season, 161 wins. That says an awful lot in my opinion.

Even Madden was not a lock so I wouldn't say Cowher's is a lock. But then again the HOF voters love him so he is probably a lock.

I was going to say that would limit it to a very small number of coaches, but it's actually a decent sized list: Noll, Landry, Parcells, Gibbs, Lombardi, Johnson, Belicheck, Shula, Walsh, Flores, Siefert, and Shanahan.

Re: Bill Cowher Resigns; HOF worthy?

What could hurt him I suppose if he, like Parcells, keeps coming back. Then the committe would be disinclined to vote him in only because they think he's just going to coach again. With Gibbs, everyone was certain he wasn't coming back so it was easy to vote him in.

My gut says Cowher is back coachig in 2008
