Cap Room
We have some excellent Capologists here in the Warpath, and we are only mere weeks from Free Agency. Exactly how much room do we have, or how much potentially do we have with some expert "trimming" of the roster?
You just know the FO will focus filling needs via FA rather than waiting for the NFL Draft. |
Re: Cap Room
I heard that we were 2.7 over the expected cap of 109 Million. Which, I could be wrong, but seems like it will be easy to take care of and clear up some good room.

Re: Cap Room
I think Gmanc is about right in saying we're a shade over the expected cap of $109 million. I posted this in another thread, I still think it applies:
I'd look for the following moves: Cut: John Hall, Christian Fauria, Mike Rumph (save $3.5 million) Cut: Adam Archuleta as a Post June 1 move, (save $600K in 2007, absorb a $7 million deadcap hit in 2008) Forced Paycuts: Mark Brunell and Reynaldo Wynn, if they don't accept, cut them to save $4.8 million in FY 2007 between the two of them) Restructured Contracts (no pay reduction, just restructure): Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas, Shawn Springs, Cornelius Griffin, Marcus Washington, Clinton Portis, Casey Rabach. This could generate $10-15 million in cap space. Resign: Derrick Dockery to a long term deal They'll have the flexibility to keep it all together and make another free agency run, if they want to. For more info on our cap situation, check out this thread: http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/16455-article-2007-cap.html?highlight=%22nice+breakdown%22 |
Re: Cap Room
In short, they have the flexibility and wherewithall to clear $10-$15 million in cap space, at minimum, if they so choose. This would include cutting Adam Archuleta.
As usual, the 'Skins shouldn't be hindered in any foray into free agency, whether big or small. |
Re: Cap Room
I'll tell you what, each day we go without resigning Derrick Dockery makes me feel worse and worse.

Re: Cap Room
According to CPND cap info center, the 'skins are $2.891m over the 2007 NFL cap number of $109m. If you click the link, all you capologists have all the info you need including contract amounts and cap hits for 2007 and 2008. May the force be with you.

I don't think you'll see much until after June 1 right now they are too far over the cap to make any serious moves...once they start cutting down and restructuring salaries, there should be some movement. |

Good information, and they seem to have it all updated pretty well. Crazy Canuck keeps this information here on the Warpath and keeps it in a much more user-friendly format (in my opinion). If anyone is so inclined, you can actually copy Canuck's tables to excel and do some number crunching on your own (which I've done). He last updated on the 19th of December, so the link you provided is more updated. But check back on Canuck's figures here when he updates. The information is easier to handle. |

If they wait until June 1 to get serious about Dockery, they will be far too late. He gets signed before the unrestricted period begins or he is most likely gone. |
Re: Cap Room
The fact that they still haven't gotten Dockery signed is pretty concerning in my opinion. It's still only mid-January, and they have six more weeks until he hits the open market. But every day that the 'Skins don't offer Dockery something in the right neighborhood, that's another day that Dockery will be thinking about and getting comfortable with the concept of free agency.
'Skins need to act on him soon. |

Too much pressure to win now, I don't like it. |
Franchise tag? Maybe?
i doubt it. i think tagging him would mean he gets a 1 year deal where we pay him the average of the top 5 guards in the league's salary. knowing the deal hutchinson got in minnesota, im sure the average is quite high and he isnt worth THAT much IMO |
