Huge Cushion
Does anyone know for sure, and if you do can you provide evidence, as to whether or not the huge cussion our DBs, especially Rodgers, gave opposing receivers this year was a result of GW's scheme. Or, were they supposed to play closer, but did't because they were afraid of getting beat.
In addition, which do you think is worse? The fact that GW doesn't have enough confidence to let them play closer, or that they're scared to. |
Re: Huge Cussion
cushion? it belive it was coaching
|
Re: Huge Cussion
It's the scheme, man. Not entirely, but quite a bit in my opinion. I know I've been particularly critical of Williams.
We just don't gamble with the pool of players we have and I think there is a direct correlation between that and our low turnover ratio. A guy like Asante Samuels...he jumps the ball, I get the feeling if ended up here, he would be a different player. |
Re: Huge Cussion
after one of the games, Brian Mitchell asked GW about the cushion and GW said he would get rogers to play closer to the line.
That leads me to believe that it's the players choice. Also, When Jimoh had to play, He was always on the line of scrimmage. The players know the speed of a WR better than the coaches, I think they should decide how far they should be off. |
Re: Huge Cussion
I would love a real answer to this, w/some facts to back it up.
I wondered about this too. Rogers gave the most cushion. I never understood it, cause it allows the wr's to get into their route a full second or more. On that big drop by TO, Rogers was 10 yrds. back but still got beat downfield. |

I agree, But we dont want rogers trying to jam Joey Galloway on the line without help uptop. |
Re: Huge Cussion
I'm gonna fix the spelling on the thread title here
|
Re: Huge Cushion
Dont fix it, damn it....
a cussion is like a concussion but not as bad |
Re: Huge Cushion
If coach Williams did not like the cushion Rogers was playing, told him to reduce it and he didn't then he could bench him. But he never did.
Which leads me to believe they played with a big cushion in man coverage because our pass rush was weak for most year and they were afraid to get beat deep. If you have a strong pass rush from your front four and they get to the QB in 4 to 5 seconds on most plays, your DB's will look better because they do not have cover a receiver as long. Plus it rattles Qb's. |
Re: Huge Cushion
I believe it was revealed as part of the scheme. I'll look for the article. There is no way an self respecting player would do that unless told to. And no coach would allow it unless it was schemed.

Re: Huge Cushion
I thought cussion, did look kinda funny, lol

Re: Huge Cushion
Rogers said in an interview that it's the scheme.
With the problems in the secondary it's easy to see why GW would want to prevent against the big play. Our secondary got toasted all year but especially early in the season with Springs out and AA playing like ass. |

The question wasn't about why Rogers was getting beat....of course no coach would tell his player that? Let's just see if there is a repeat of last year before we conclude that Rogers suck. |
