Lions interested in Springs
NOTEBOOK: The Lions have shown interest Washington cornerback Shawn Springs, who could be traded or released. But Millen said he liked what he had in Fernando Bryant, Stanley Wilson, Keith Smith and Dee McCann. "It's not like we're void of talent," Millen said. ...

Re: Lions interested in Springs
we need to keep him... we wont find a better value at corner otherwise...

Re: Lions interested in Springs
No shit. I'll admit he's pretty old and oft banged up but, who the F else do we have back there? WE NEED HIM.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
I had heard they were trying to acquire Springs as part of the Bly trade. I'm guessing with that wrapped up Springs will be staying in Washington for next season.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
Yeah i posted this over at another Redskins site tonight.I live in Michigan a hour away from Detroit and the word around here.Is the Lions want Detroit if they can find a way to pick him up.I am sure they would rather have us cut him.Lets hope we just keep Springs i mean i am happy about getting Smoot. That does not mean i would be happy going into next season. With Smoot and Rogers as our starters.Springs,Smoot and Rogers sound a lot better to me.

I would not be banking on that one. I would also like to have Springs back if he can play? However, they want him to take a pay cut and rework his deal? Not so sure we'll have his services next year. |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
hello. springs is our best corner, by a mile. our defense was horrible last season. so getting rid of your best cover corner just doesnt make sense

Re: Lions interested in Springs
Springs is getting paid BIG money to be a Redskin this season. Only way he wouldn't be in DC would be HUGE trade (not gonna happen) or retirement (not gonna happen). Springs gonna make something around 8.3 million this season I heard (check it!). End of story.

Not even close. Springs Salary for 07 = 4.8 mil, OBonuses= 2.4 mil Springs Cap for 07 = 7.3 mil Springs Release fee for 07= 7.3 mil |

"Big Money" is what Clements is getting paid. I would argue that Springs, when healthy, is as good as Clements. If they let him go there is nobody on the market who can cover the other team's #1 as well as Springs. |

Good point. I just wonder whether Springs will be healthy all next season. My bet is that he plays 10 games at most. |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
Listening to the interviews last year it sounded like Springs didn't think he'd be back.I agree ten games is about all we'll get,but he's worth the money.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
Considering Spring's injury problems (he's been injured every season since he's been here) he shouldn't be so stubborn about restructering his contract. Many others have restructered for the good of the team, and I can't figure out what makes him any different.

that's the first time i've heard that too ;). |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
A corner crew of Springs, Rogers, and Smoot is a good start. I don't see how we could afford to lose Springs now that Bly went to Denver. Let's just hope the guy can get healthy. A 100% healthy Springs could help turn this D around in a real hurry.
