No where he is terrible!! Anybody who needs evidence of this needs only look at his record in Houston. Not to mention he did a horrible job with the Redskins as well.

Certainly not here. Gibbs hated Cass when the GM in the Glory days.

Rick Smith is now the GM in Houston.

Former Houston Texans GM Charlie Casserly resigned from the organization today after a controversial draft and rumors of being headed to work for the NFL.

The Houston Texans made an announcement today that effective on June 1, Charlie Casserly will no longer be the team’s General Manager. Casserly said that he will pursue other employment opportunities during a press conference held today after turning in his resignation letter. Casserly has served as the General Manager for the Houston Texans since January 19, 2000.
Owner Bob McNair commented on Casserly today, saying “Charley has been with me in this effort now for over six years. We have gone through a lot of ups and downs and had a lot of pleasurable moments together. We made an awful lot of progress. We had some disappointments last year. But I think we both feel that we have the cart back on the path and it’s moving in the right direction. I’m very pleased with Gary Kubiak. I’m very pleased with the way the draft went. I’m very pleased with the free agency. I think that the Texans’ organization is in great shape at this point in time.”
Some fans may be all to happy to see Casserly on his way out the door after this year’s draft. With the number one pick in the draft the Houston Texans were expected to pick Heisman Trophy winning running back Reggie Bush from USC. Instead, the Texans picked Mario Williams, a defensive end from North Carolina State. Many fans blame Casserly for the choice, and understandably so since Casserly has said during press conferences himself that it was his choice to take Williams. Many fans were furious at the team, and more directly Charlie Casserly, for passing on Reggie Bush.
During his opening statement during the press conference today, Casserly took the time to mention this year’s draft, saying “I told Bob, I thanked him for the support he has given me in my period of time here. There is no question that we had some tough decisions that had to be made in the off-season. There obviously was tremendous sentiment to take the local hero Vince Young. But Bob I thought showed a lot of courage on his part to say to us ‘make the decision you think is best for the football team’. When we came to the decision on Mario Williams, which was obviously going to be another controversial decision, he said make the decision that is best for the football team. That showed courage by the owner. There perhaps would have been other owners that wouldn’t have done that. They would have said ‘you have to make this decision because this is the popular decision and that is all there is to it’. And Bob showed a vision there to be able to do that. I thanked him for that and I mean that, because I think actions speak louder than words in those situations.”
As of right now, there has not been talk about who will be replacing Charlie Casserly in the position of General Manager. Bob McNair stated today “We just talked this morning, Charley and I. Frankly, I haven’t even thought about [Casserly’s Replacement]. I haven’t talked to anyone. I have no list. I’ll start dealing with that in the next week or two and start looking at potential candidates and define the job. I’ll sit down and visit with coach Kubiak and talk about his views. That will sort of be the beginning process.”

Well, I know he is not popular, but remember, he was the one who set up the deal that got us Champ Bailey for Ricky Williams and left us with the number 2 & 3 picks of the draft the next year.

Re: Charley Casserly... where will he land

Before you bash Casserly, take a thorough look at his body of work. He's had his ups & downs like anybody that evaluates talent. There are always guys that ALL the scouts agree on yet don't pan out, e.g. Desmond Howard, and there are guys that all agree on & they do pan out, e.g. Champ Bailey.

He did win a super bowl as our GM in 91-92. Norv was said to have had a big hand in getting Shuler & Westbrook. Does CC deserve some blame for those years? sure, but he also had his good years. I don't think he did that bad of a job in HOuston. There are a lot of reasons they aren't that good.

At the same time, I don't think he could come back to DC at this point in his career. The organization is on a different wavelength than he is, we need somebody under 50 that wants to make a name for themselves.
