Old home movie question...

So coming up in October, we will observe the 10th anniversary of my fathers passing, and we have a large quantity of old family videos (Christmas, Easter, our parents just effing with us, etc...) that we've never been able to watch.

The old camcorder we used is broken, and so far at radio shack I haven't been able to find any kind of adapter to use.

Ideally, I would like to pay someone to transfer all the old home movies to dvd. My only question is what kind of technology can they back track to, and how much would something like this cost, say per hour of footage.

Are there video places that can play some of these older obsolete video cassettes?

It would mean a lot to my family if I was able to do this, and cost really isn't an issue. If anyone has any information that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys!

There are companies online that will provide this type of service. I bought an analog video converter several years ago and transfer my own stuff to my pc. It's not that difficult if you have the right software.

Look up The Video Editor on Rockville Pike (near Copelands). I've used them twice to help me create home DVDs with old VHS cassettes and Super 8 film. They'e great. Highly recommend them

If you have a Wegmans around you, I know they do it at Wegmans here in Rochester; at the film section.

Not sure if the Belmont TV in Glenmont does it, but the one in Bailey's Crossroads promotes conversions on their billboard out front. Might be a place to check out: Belmont TV - DC MD VA Discount Electronics Plasma TV Home Theater Sony Toshiba Zenith JVC Sales Service and Repair

Yeah, I'm not totally sure what kind of film that was used, but as I recall it was something odd.

It wasn't the kind that you could purchase one of those vhs adapters for, that's I all really know at this point. I'll head over to my Mom's today and grab them and see if I can figure it out.

We had some converted of those old real to real jobs with no sound and only in blak & white. Is it me or is it more fun to watch those old home movies that have no sound and you knid of have to guess what is said and going on.
