Iggles' DT Sam Rayburn

Just a thought, since we need to upgrade d-line.. Iggles just released DT Sam Rayburn.. I never heard of him but based on ESPN source, he seems to be average?

Just to give you a heads up, expect about 40 people to respond with some variation of, why do we go chasing other people's trash, why didn't we just pay champ and pierce?

Hypothetically if we were to cut Springs for cap reasons, does that mean that he would then be labeled as the "skin's trash" and would ppl on the message boards of other teams be saying, "why do we want to pick up the skin's trash?" My point is sometimes players with talent have to get released for cap reasons or whatever. This doesn't mean that the skins should chase after every one of them, but signing a few players based on our need and their talent level is a good thing.

Re: Iggles' DT Sam Rayburn

Rayburn is actually a pretty solid player against the run, I don't think it would be a terrible move.

The downside of adding him means he would either cut into the playing time and development of Golston and Montgomery, or just flat out cause one of them to get the axe. I doubt we'll keep 5 DTs, especially with Wynn capable of rotating down to DT. So adding Rayburn would mean we cut either Montgomery, Golston, or Salave'a. Griffin's obviously safe.

Rayburn's not an upgrade as a run stopper over a healthy Salave'a. And GW seems to like Montgomery and Golston. I don't like Golston's size very much, but I don't know if I'd take Rayburn over him because Rayburn just doesn't offer enough of an upgrade to make cutting a young guy worthwhile.

If something happens to Salave'a healthwise, which is very possible, then Rayburn would be an excellent idea.

Good thread.

He looks average, but is younger than Salavea, which is a plus. When healthy, I think Salavea could be more of a force than this guy, but can we trust him to stay healthy?

I think we roll the dice with the guys we have this year and hope they stay healthy. If they do, they will be MUCH BETTER than last year. I think they are do for a good health year.

I vote we find a big guy to put on the practice squad unless a "no brainer" becomes available.

Don't know much about this one. Has youth on his side.

Well, obviously you still have been locked into old times.. Paying champ big time isn't working, look at our history..

He could probably be acquired for a cheap price and would provide solid depth at a position where our starters are always getting hurt. Plus he's a vet under 30 who knows the division. I just want to see something, anything, done to help the D-line.

Re: Iggles' DT Sam Rayburn

I think Rayburn would be a very good pickup, especially considering that there's no guarentee Saleve'a or Griffin would be back next year.

Keeping 5 DTs is a real possibility. Obviously, not all 5 would ever be on the active 46 per game roster at the same time, but you need to keep 4 active for vertually every game, so why not give GW more choices?

Competition is not something we should fear.

On top of it all, its rare to find a guy hitting the open market that wont command big bucks but could help your team.

as long as they stay healthy, that is one position the skins seem to be alright at

I'm not sold on our current DT's at all. I'm questionable about DE's as well. I watched Tiki Barber run threw our defense for 267 yds and a few TD's. Can't blame that on Springs' injury or Archuletta on the sideline. Really surprised we haven't made ANY DT moves. Was hoping we'd sign Sam Adams for a 1 year contract, but Denver beat us to it!
