Anybody get a traffic ticket on the first day of the new "CIVIL PENALTY" fines in Va?
These "CIVIL" fines are only applicable to us great VA. residents, out of staters get off scotch free? I'm not quite sure how they pulled that one off.
I thought the fines applied to all, while on the roads in VA. Story - Virginians Face $3,000 Traffic Ticket - AOL News |

Yea, it really does stink! They way I read the law, DC would NOT apply. Just VA. residents only. Don't get me wrong I'm all for people obeying the rules of the road, but if they are gonna gauge your eyes out, that should apply to anyone on the road in VA., resident or not. |

I can't even see how that is fair to everyone. Damn restricted laws. |

You can not impose civil fines on residents of another state since states are sovereign from one another.

Well I guess i'm gonna be driving in fear from now on, if I ever get a 1000 ticket I'd have to work for a couple months just to pay that off.

Virginia law makers always pride themselves in their "No New Taxes" slogan. It's obvious that there's a shortfall in the state budget and instead of raising taxes they are going around shaking down motorists. What a f'ing racket!
All I have to say is Virginians can't have it both ways. Somehow the state needs to generate money and if they can't do it via raising taxes because of voter unwillingness then this might a legitimate, though shady, way to mitigate the state's inability to generate money. |

We have VDOT which runs our highways and they are a mess and screw up just about everything they touch. All we want is the state to cut back on wast and fix a broken system then maybe we would be more willing to pay for these new roads. In the meantime I'll just keep from getting any major tickets as they are the only ones with these heavy cicil fees. |

VDOT is a 100% WASTE of tax payers cash! They can't do shit right OR on time. Since you live in the Hampton Roads area, I'm quite sure you understand. For the tax or road money/CIVIL FINES what the hell are the doing with all the money now? NOT A DAMN THING, THE ROADS AND TUBES ARE A DISASTER PERIOD Checked your PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES LATELY????? Ours went up 35% THIS YEAR, AGAIN! This is the fourth straight year it went up from 22-35% EACH YEAR. They are trying to tax you outta your damn house. We have friends and family all over the Country including CA., not one soul I know is being taxed like this. It's the Freakin fleecing of AMERICA. |
