ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
Something to take note of since Sean Taylor could be looking for a new deal soon enough.

Re: ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
LOts and lots of money. Can't say that he doesn't deseve it. Good point on this being a important to taylor. Taylor is not as good as troy but can demand money in this range now. That is a lot. Atleast for the first time in many many years we don't have to hear about "cap hell". Next offseason is probably when ST will want a new contract and i hope to lock him up for 5-6 years.
Good move by the steelers and nice sign for troy. |
Re: ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
I gotta feeling Taylor is going to be the highest paid safetly in the NFL by the time next season rolls around, if not before.

One can only hope. Losing him would be a HUGE mistake. I can hardly wait to start watching him hit again. |

I don't think we're going to lose him, but everyday another big star safety get's signed, it drives the maket up in Taylor's favor. |

Well seeing as Sean Taylor is my favorite Redskin I would hate to see him go. I do think though there is price that Sean Taylor is not worth.

While I see this Sean Taylor thing, I'm curious what Fanica (sp?) thinks of all this money being thrown at Troy. (Another point by NFL radio.)

Re: ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
Pittsburgh obviously doesn't want to dump a ton of $$ on a 10 year OL.
You can't keep everyone happy, Polamalu was a higher priority I guess. |
Re: ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
its funny how people around here bitch and moan about Taylor's play, then want him paid like a top 5 safety. I'm not sure why he would command that type of money

Re: ESPN: Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season
If you want to extend his contract, you're going to have to pay him like a top safety. Theres no other contract that a player is going to agree to. He's not going to want 2002 money.
When Taylor actually outplays his rookie deal, which admittedly wasn't that good, then I think the Skins should compensate him accordingly. But if he's going to be a safety who can't cover (Sean Taylor ranked 68th vs the pass among eligible safeties...Arch ranked 66th), he doesn't deserve to be paid like one. Full disclosure: Sean Taylor was excellent vs the run in 2006, but this might have been part of the problem. To be able to average 6.0 yards per running play against as a safety, you have to be really, really agressive in attacking the LOS, and if ST was really aggressive at the LOS, its not surprising that he was terrible over the top. |
