Campbell Not Ready?
I found it interesting the Jason Campbell is expected to start (via redskins.com) vs. the Jaguars. I would think that you should hold him out of the rest of the preseason to prevent reaggregation of his injury. Could this mean he isn't as polished as we all believe him to be? Let's face it, nothing spectacular has come from the Offense at all this preseason.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
Well even Peyton Manning needs to get back into sync with his receivers, so I don't think him still playing is any sign of him not being ready. Plus, if I'm correct, a bruised knee is more of a pain issue than a chance to really reagrivate an injury, so I don't think it's a huge deal.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
He will be ready for game 1, but he needs reps! He only started 7 games last season.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
I don't think it's so much a problem of JC being ready as he missed what probably would have been his last scheduled start of the preseason, it's like LM and skinsfan eluded to the starting QBs all have a certain number of reps they need to get in at game speed before they are totaly in sync with thier receivers. Granted the offense has been far from spectacular, I nonetheless think that falls more on the offensive line and running game problems than the QB. Personally I think both JC and Todd Collins have been one of the few bright spots as far as the offense goes in camp this year. Brunell can take a long walk off a short pier down to Atlanta for all I care.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
He needs as much work as he can get, this is still a learning year for him.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
He'll probably only play a series or two anyway. If he's ready get him back in there.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
While I dont think Portis needs to be playing in these games, I do think that JC really needs to play. He is essentially a rookie with almost no experience. He needs more live action and the chance to work out his timing in game conditions.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
Wow! I totally agree with offiss AND irish. JC could definitely use one, maybe two, series versus Jacksonville.

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
JC could use the rest , but he needs the work . Until our offence can start getting in the endzone < we had 9 games last year that we scored less than 20 pts > these guys could use the work . Hope the Defence can cause turnovers this year .

Re: Campbell Not Ready?
I wouldn't be surprised to see our starters play about 1/2 the game. Since we didnt have close to a starting squad on the field game 3. I'd love to see at least our starting line play a series.

I think half a game is way too much to keep the starters in for the final preseason tune up. They need to get them in for a few reps (2 series, 3 max) and then get them out. The rest of the game can be for evaluating the backups and finalizing the roster for opening week. I believe you'll see a much better offense with Samuels, Portis and JC on the field against Miami. |

The problem is this O is not fine tuning, they are trying to figure out how to score points and actually do something productive. If JC was a seasoned vet and the O was solid I'd say just play them a bit and be done with it but this O needs reps to figure out what its doing. The D can take a break. |

The D can take a break.[/quote] So you are saying the risk of injury during a meaningless game is worth the reward? Do you think Jacksonville will have their starters in more than 2-3 series? It would be hard to evaluate progress and "fine tune" a starting squad against backups and roster hopefuls. |

I agree. 1-2 series max for the starters. |
Re: Campbell Not Ready?
Sure, there's nothing that compares to in-game experience, but we also have to remember that the Skins still DO practice against an NFL defense every day and now the season is starting, they also prepare as though they're playing the other team.
