Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
Per JLC:
It's DeMulling Heard from a few people that the Skins have deicded on Rick DeMulling. They spent more time tonight debating the decision and heard that both he and Vincent passed physicals, but they ended up going with DeMulling. Not sure of exactly how they will go ahead with the transaction tomorrow, and who they will release, but I know that for now it looks like they will not be putting Randy on IR, though they will likely continue to gather info from the doctors and see how he heals. They have been getting by without the two kids they claimed off waivers two weeks ago - Boyd and Bodiford - and are also carrying 6 safeties. Heard Vincent's workout went pretty well, so he could still be a guy to watch down the road should, gasp, more injuries strike the line. |
Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
Here's his scouting report:
Full Name: Rick Elwood DeMulling Born: July 21, 1977 Cheney, WA Height: 6-4 Weight: 304 lbs. Pronounced: de-MULL-ing Age: 30 Pos: OG Experience: 7 years College: Idaho Drafted: Year:2001 Round:7 Pick:20, Colts 2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 65 | Key Alert: None Comment: After being a three-year starter in Indianapolis, DeMulling has been inconsistent during the last two seasons with the Lions. He brings athleticism to the offensive line and seems to be a good fit at guard for the Lions' offense, which includes both pulling and trapping in the schemes. He is a solid technician and a knee-bender who plays with good body position and leverage. DeMulling excels when given the opportunity to block in space. He tracks defenders well and is able to get in position to make the block on the outside or on the second level. DeMulling's athletic feet and balance also show up in pass protection, as he does a nice job of bending his knees, has good hand placement and handles double moves and counter moves well. Where DeMulling does not shine is when faced with a power or bull rusher, because he does not anchor well and often will get run over. This problem is also evident in the run game when playing a stout two-gap defensive tackle, as he struggles to drive block physical defenders at the point of attack. For an offensive lineman with such athleticism and experience, DeMulling seems to lack awareness at times, not coming off protections to effectively pick up blitzers and sometimes burying his head on combination blocks and missing the next-level defender. These inconsistencies in DeMulling's play have been much more evident in Detroit than his first four seasons with the Colts. |

I like him, he will be a good fill-in for now.

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
will he start?

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
not this week I don't imagine...but it seems to me they probably like his ability to pull...which is what Thomas excelled at...we will probably see him after the bye

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling

I don't like this part of his game, he better brush up on this technique or we are going to be in trouble, especially against the Cowboys. |

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
I doubt he will become the starter.

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
All he has to do is pass Fabini on the depth chart. He will be the starter come week 5 against the Lions.

Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
I think he will start soon, probably after the bye.
Fabini is good for depth but he's not starting material anymore. DeMulling is athletic and moves well. Buges will get him coached up. |

Is this just a guess or are you basing it on something? Have you seen him play? If he's so good why was he unemployed? Starting guards don't grow on trees. Unfortunately, ones that get buried by a bull rush do. Everything in that scouting report was true of Todd Wade as well. Maybe he should play right guard and we can put Heyer at tackle. Fabini looked okay to me. And he actually made the final cut of an NFL roster this year. |

Plus his natural position is Guard unlike Fabini who has mostly played tackle in his career. DeMulling was a pretty good guard when he was playing for the Colts and a good one for the Lions, he is a better player than Fabini is. |
Re: Redskins sign guard Rick DeMulling
According to this link the guy has a lot of experience playing LG, I don't see much in RG experience. Scout.com: Rick DeMulling Profile
Isn't Idaho where Mark Schlereth also went to school? I hope he can at least play. I have faith in Buges he knows what he's doing. |
