QB Battle

Although everyone in the media seems to have given Brunell the starting job at qb already, how much do you think Ramsey will have to outplay Brunell for Gibbs to name him the starter?

Hogskin 08-02-2004 08:11 AM

I think he would just have to edge him out to get the job. But based on both of their histories, I give it a 1 in 1000 shot. A couple guys already noted in the first practices that Ramsey was "slow" or "hesitant". That has been his biggest problem in the past, and will take time to overcome.

MTK 08-02-2004 08:33 AM

I think Ramsey will have to really outplay Brunell to win the job. If it's neck and neck Brunell will get the nod based on his experience. Ramsey really needs to outshine him, I don't see it happening.

Ramsey always wants the big play, to go deep... brunell and hasslebeck are much better about getting the ball off quickly, and brunell is better on short dump offs because of that.

but it really doesn't matter cause portis thinks they're both jerks :D

As soon as Ramsey can shake his bad habit of holding on to the ball too long, I will be his biggest fan. At that time I will prefer Ramsey over Brunell. Ramsey's playing style at this point in his career reminds me alot of Drew Bledsoe, they both need to be quicker with the ball, read the defense and throw it...keep the chains moving. They both take to many sacks. Gibbs will teach Ramsey to be a great QB by learing to count the seconds after the snap and get rid of it after 5-6 seconds, regardless if he has to just throw an incompletion.

I think Ramsey will wind up the STATER CAUSE BRUNNELL WIL, GET HURT, gibbs will ahve in right he reminds me of rypien Willimas or Schroeder but he can move better. I am looking for the new posse to shine this year.

It's Brunnell's job to lose!! I see them both playing this year!! Can Brunnell stay healthy??

PR is the 3rd best QB on this team. For a 1st round pick he has proven to be a major disappointment.

huh? If Ramsey has been a disappointment than what does that make Carr and Harrington??

Ramsey is still green and has only 16 starts under his belt. He nearly got killed in Spurrier's joke of an offense but he kept getting up for more.

Under the circumstances I'd say it's very premature to label him disappointing.

He would be the #1 guy on alot of teams around the league. The same can't be said of Hasselbeck.

Gibb's like's his QB's to look down field first, then check off and hit the saftey valve if nothing is there, which is defiently Ramsey's strong point, I said it all along that I feel Ramsey is the perfect QB for Gibb's, and he will eventually prove it.

But I do think he really has to outplay Brunnell to start, at least early on.

redwagonskins 08-03-2004 10:40 AM

I love all this talk about the QB battle because it actually means that we have a couple of good guys to choose from. Both guys will play this year (what are the chances an NFL starter makes it through the whole season without getting nicked up) and the fact that we have these two helps our chances. I think Brunell will get the nod initially, but I can see Ramsey playing later in the year, ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFF RUN! Here's hoping.

irish 08-03-2004 10:50 AM

Carr is on an expansion team and has played well considering, Harrington plays for the wost organization in the league. I'd say cant tell on Carr and a bit of a disappointment for Harrington.

Maybe its too soon to call him a disappointment (in the long term) but as of right now he is the 3rd best QB on this team and that is disappointing for a 1st round pick.

What are you smoking?

Redskins_P 08-03-2004 11:44 AM

Ramsey has proved that he can play in the NFL. He had rough year last season, but it was only his 2nd year. Plus he was beat up badly and had no running game to support him. Alot of teams have alot of respect for him because for all the beatings he took. He kept on getting up and never criticized the O-Line or the coaching staff. The kid is tough and he will be a good QB in this league.

If he's a dissapointment, then why was Chicago, and Miami interested in trading for him?

You might want to look at Joe Crisp's camp reports, or the newspaper reports.

Both P.Ram, & Brunnel are better than Hasselbeck.
Ram is faster on the throw, and better at getting back and set than Brunnel.

Which means, HOF Coach Gibbs likes Brunnel for his smarts & leadership, and P. Ram for his grittiness.

A team simply has to have two, quality starting QB's. Neither would start and end the entire season! Along the way, the starter will get dinged up, and need replacing.

My choice would not have been to trade for Brunnel. But HOF Coach Gibbs has a different plan. Depth is key, and is critical.
