Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
In light of recent discussions here about playcalling, coaches, etc. what do you think of LJ's comments?

Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
This article makes the CP interview I heard today that much more impressive. Larry Johnson just got paid mad money so I think he should pipe down a little bit. I think Herm Edwards knows what he's doing.

Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
I really could care less what LJ has to say. Sounds like maybe the KC locker room has the same feeling.

Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
I've personally always thought that LJ was an ass. The guy can't keep his mouth shut, has a chip on his shoulder, and is just a jerk. He talks trash about all of his coaches, raps about the owner who just paid him millions, and thinks he is some God. In reality, he's just a punk who can run.

Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
I don't think he said anything particularily offensive ... anyone who watched the Chiefs lose to the Colts last year in the playoffs should understand where he's coming from in saying, if they stack 9 in the box you pass.
As for that rap, I thought that was proven to not be him? |
Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
LJ is killing me...I hope he starts speaking with his feet and earn me some points.
As for that rap, I thought that was proven to not be him?
The only proof that I heard of was: LJ's denial; LJ's cousin denied it was him; and the producers of the rap denied it was him several days after not denying it. If you listen to it, it sounds exactly like LJ. |
Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
He's frustrated right now, who can blame him?
I don't think he said anything horrible here. |
Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
he has a point.... i actually somewhat agree with him even though i feel players shouldnt speak out like that all the time. especially after signing a big contract.

Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
I am very impressed with how Edwards handled it.
But to answer your question, he should shut his mouth. He's not exactly helping his own cause. It's easy to point the blame, but he's averaging only 2.8 yards per carry. That's horrible. If he's pulling off 4.5+ then he can talk. |
Re: Larry Johnson Speaks His Mind
Does it seem like the Chiefs are experiencing almost exactly what the Jets wound up doing under Edwards?
Seems like Herman Edwards has sluggish offenses wherever he goes. I think it has to do with a head coach who has a defensive coordinator's mentality -- 'Don't do anything aggressive offensively, just let the defense win the game.' |

I don't think he said anything horrible here.
He didn't but he has a pattern of speaking too frankly with the press and acting like a spoiled brat. Problems with the house, should stay in house IMO. |

Sometimes you have to light the house on fire to get everyone to acknowledge, discuss and put out the fire. The truth should always be set free. |

Problem is, it's rare that the "fire" is beneficial. Usually it burns the house down. It's very rare to see a loose lipped player turn around a season. I am wagering they will still lose this week. |

It seems to me like Herm Edwards seems to be the problem in KC (along with Willie Roaf and Will Shields retiring). Those changes have impacted LJ's game negatively in a very substantial way. Plus i think Herm's jet's squads have always been underachieving for the talent that they've had. He seems like someone who can make a team good but not great (more of a coordinator type in my mind). I think LJ and LT, who also had a similar tiff with Phillip Rivers last week, are just frustrated and are voicing their opinions. The difference is that LT is doing it in a more polished way and not airing his dirty laundry out to the media. I also think that LT had the benefit of Marty ball that helped him break those records last year and rack up stats in previous years. Don't get me wrong i think he is a great player and probably the best active RB in the league BUT i think he is overrated in that sportswriters already crowned him as the greatest RB ever before his career was over. There are many factors that can dip a guys production down (other than his own skill set) and I think losing some key members of the coaching staff is the one that is affecting LT right now. Only time will tell if both these RB's can prove that they can have sustained success in this league. Only then can they be mentioned with the Walter Paytons, Jim Browns, and the Barry Sanders of this league. |
