MNF Much Better Last Night
I don't mean the outcome. The outcome sucked.
I am referring to the quality of the broadcast by ESPN which I thought was the best they have done since taking over last year. They talked football a lot and there were no guests other than Jim Kelly who was brief. (I guess there are no movies currently being filmed in Western New York. No Disney movies anyway) There was also a point where Tirico stifled himself and said "Let's just enjoy this crowd" which was a good idea. The Buffalo fans are great. That place can't have bathroom facilities adequate to level of boozing taking place and yet no one ever seemed to leave their seat. Maybe they were all wearing diapers. Anyway, I think perhaps ESPN is finally starting to get it. Also Parcells, continues to shine. His QB Commandments segment was great. It seemed to leave Berman a little speechless it was so good which made it even better. He should have his own show. Also, I was a little nervous when they said that Ralph Wilson is 89. I thought, if Buffalo loses this game, they need to have paramedics standing by because that guy is going to have an infarction. Unbelievable ending. Anyone who thinks that life is fair need only view side by side video of Jones and Wilson after that game to become a profound cynic. |
Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
I personally want to kill stuart scott for arguing with ex-players, coaches, and sports writers about football...he looks like a F***ing moron. I really hope he signs somewhere else soon. I used to not mind him...until he began to think he was an established sports analyst...he's always wrong...and really really stupid.

Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
I'll agree the broadcast was improved. Probably because no celebs are going to be hanging out in Buffalo. LOL

Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
No question it was better last night. A crazy game didn't hurt either.
I, too, like to listen to Bill Parcells b/c I feel at least he has knowledge of the game. Like him or hate him as a coach he is a good, if not great evaluator of talent and knows how to build a team. Good stuff. |
Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
i've always like parcell's,but scott, emmitt, steve young, and keyshaun are all walking talking clusterf**ks as announcers.i got tired of all the shots of jerry jones too!!!!!!

Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
I thought it was just as bad as they keep cutting back to them for what seems like after every play. It breaks up the flow of the game and its like they want to tell us what teams are doing rather then letting us watch. Its nice that they cut back just in time to see the snap of the ball then back to them. I know its not that bad and announcers have never really bothered me before and I just use to kind of laugh as people here would complain. It was that Philly game that gave me the impression that these guys in the booth thought they were more important then what was going on, on the field.

Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
Well I told you guys that this year ESPN was drastically cutting back on the "guests in the booth" but that there would still be some occassions when it would occur, but they would be more athletes and fewer actors/musicians
Parcells is very good. I like Keyshawn. Young is average. Emmitt needs some serious work. |
Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
Emmitt is horrible. The guy needs speech lessons or something, he sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth.

Emmitt should stick to dancing! |
Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
The only way MNF's broadcast could get better is if they got rid of that annoying know-it-all Tirico, that better-in-studio Jaws, and sent Kornheiser to some deserted island (preferably on another planet in a galaxy far, far away). Until then the new ESPN MNF stinks unless there's actually a good, competitive game going on, or unless my beloved Skins are whopping up on someone.

I'm totally sick of the cutting to the booth and then just in time back to the snap. It sets my nerves on edge. One more game of thinking the announcers are the show and I'm through with MNF. It infuriates me when they ramble on about something instead of identifying the tackler. I simply can't stand those morons and their stupid fluff. |

Keyshawn has good comments but needs to work on his delivery. He seems to be very monotonous. I like Young, this is not the first time I've heard someone say he's not very good, or average. Why do you guys think he's not very good? Totally agree with Emmitt too...he only there because of his distinguished football career. I'd take Sterling Sharpe over him any day. |

You know, a lot of times, my wife and I will just mute the TV and watch the game. It's a lot more peaceful at times...give that a try. |
Re: MNF Much Better Last Night
I haven't watched a full broadcast of MNF since the Skins-Eagles game, but from the bits I have seen since that time the broadcast seems much improved. Seems like they are letting Jaws do more analysis and Kornheiser is backing away from his 'aw-shucks its a football game and I'm confused' routine and actually providing some relevant comments and setting up Jaws better than he was previously. Clearly I credit SmootSmack with all of these improvements. Well done sir.
