Let's talk about the onsides kick today
Hell of a call if you ask me, very ballsy call in fact.
At that point in the game we were down 17-6 with about 5 minutes to go in the first half. If we don't recover the Jets are in prime field position and could have put the game away with a TD. Instead it only leads to 3 points, but in the grand scheme of the game it was a big play and a gutsy call. For all the criticism the team takes for not being aggressive enough, let's at least give some props for this one. |
Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
It was ugly, but we were lucky to have the Rock back and save our behinds with his recovery.

Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
I thought the two pt conversion was more gutsy.

How so? That's a pretty easy decision to make in that situation. |

Gutsy call. I like that they scouted that and gave it a shot. Big momentum booster, and nice play by Rock to recover. They didn't quite hit it where they wanted, but they practiced it all week in scouting the tendencies of one of the Jets coverage guys. Well done.
(Oh, and what was that fake field goal fake to get a delay penalty thingy???) |

Really? How many times have we all seen false starts way down in the redzone and the line of scrimage pushed back 5 or 10 yards? Or how many times have we looked rushed in similar situations and the play is botched? The call showed more confidence in our guys and they stepped up. |

Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
Either way, the Jets needed a FG and if you don't go for 2 a FG wins it for them. Easy call to make.

Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
The 2-pt conversion is strictly dictated by score there. Kicking puts you up 2--that's no better than being up 1--a FG beats both. The 2-pt puts you at 3--a FG only ties.
PS We should use our 2-pt conversion play on short-yardage inside the 10--it works better! |
Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
The 2pt call also showed confidence in JC specifically. After three fumbles under pressure last week and the risk of getting picked (in which either scenario could lead to a Jets run back TD) they put the ball in Campbell's hands.
The ultra-conservative, sometimes suspect playcalling in other games would have been more toward settling for the extra pt. and putting it on the defense to keep NY out of field goal range. It was a good call and a good play. |
Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
I liked the onsides kick. Finally a little bit of guts. Unfortunately, it was one of the few things to be happy about after this win.

AS far as the call... hell yeah it was gutsy. I said it in the game thread, but if you call a conservative offense when your d is playing lights out, you have to step it up when your d is struggling. I do hope GW can get these guys back on track. they did get the job done, but did not look like the same unit we saw prior to the pats game... i wonder if the pats gave everyone enough film to watch to expose us for the rest of the year.... |

Would those necessarily be my thoughts standing on the sidelines? How about no, Scott. But ultra-conservative play-calling has sort of been the standard, wouldn't you say, Scott? |
Re: Let's talk about the onsides kick today
you cant score a td on an extra point try... when you intercept it the play is dead...
