Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

Does anyone know why we don't use audibles in our offense? It seems like you would want to be able to get out of a play if the defense comes out in a formation or package you weren't expecting.

Coaching staff has no trust in Campbell yet.

Unlike college FB, it's kinda hard to make a succesfull audible, and nearly impossible to do it consistantly.

It's a shame that there aren't certain circumstance that Campbell can work a quick hot route change, or something like that. There have been several occasions where the defense has clearly brought the house, and a quick check could have given our offense a better chance...

I gotta disagree with this comment...EVERY good QB uses an audible. Peyton does on every play practically. Most teams will except for those that do not have faith in their QB's.

Saunders' offense doesn't use them.

It has nothing to do with the coaches lacking confidence in Campbell.
Where it gets tricky is that there are virtually no audibles: The quarterback and receivers must read the defense quickly and make pre-assigned adjustments.
Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

Correct--Saunders does not use them. This is one of the things making it harder for Campbell right now, IMO, especially with the hurt WRs. These reads have to be second nature for these guys--a free blitzer may be coming at you, and the WR and QB have to know where to go. That's chemistry, and it takes time to develop. And given our lack of offensive plays at times, it tough to get this going in a game.

Further, he can't audible out of a pass or run--at least not usually. I'd look to adding that to this offense, but I guess they've got enough troubles at present to work on.

(BTW, didn't Gibbs offense use audibles? More fodder for the JG vs AS debate...)

They can't even execute plays called...how in the hell can you expect them to audible and execute at the same time. You ask for too much.

In Saunders offense you are to read the defense and pick the assigned options
Is this too hard for qb?

Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

But if Campbell sees eight in the box against a run, can he audible to a pass? Why not?

Sometimes audibles are easier to execute--it depends on the D. In Saunders O, both QB and WR have to make the same read on the play--as we've seen, it can be done, and done well, but the skins have certainly not mastered it yet. Wonder if Gibbs' alterations of Saunders offense has made these options more difficult, by taking WRs off the field?

Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?

They don't want Campbell changing from a run to a pass on 1st and 2nd down. If they started down that road we would never run because the defense would always show 8. The sight adjustments that the offense has to make are plenty complicated, so its not that Campbell can't handle it. It's a philosophical approach that Saunders and Gibbs share. I suspect the sight adjustments also explain why Brandon Lloyd is so unpopular with the coaches. He hasn't ever learned them. Also, bear in mind that only some of what you see Peyton Manning doing is real He does it a lot, but some of that is for show.

Not to sound like a Mr. Know it all but we ran this same system when I played. We used the passing tree 0-9 on 80% of our pass plays. You can change the play if you want to. They can use hand signals. If you can do it in HS then you should be able to do it at the pro level. Not having audibles in crazy.
