Can't say I've got any problems with this policy. I just hate it when more power if given to refs to make subjective calls.

Also, I've heard talk of changing or even eliminating kickoffs because of how dangerous they are.

But at a certain point you have to just let them play the game that all of us has grown to love. IF they really did get rid of kickoffs then what happens to weapons like Devin Hester? He would no longer be the game changer he is. All of these guys are football players and know its a brutal game. This 'protect the QB' crap has gone on too long Its just another way to screw the defenses and raise the point total. I would have been pissed if LL would have gotten ejected for the hit last week! At that you give the refs the choice to make that call during the game? This is total BS!

I'm all for keep it clean but then again where do you stop? Does going low on a QB warrant an ejection? Plus it's really hard to tell what is and isn't flagrant...it's very subjective. Also, you have people like Roy Williams who continues to Horse Collar. He does that shit all the time even after the new league policy. I suppose if anyone should be ejected it's people like Williams.

This is a very subjective thing--I think it should be applied very carefully. Sometimes it's not malicious, some times it is. Obviously, you want to protect players.

I think there should be pretty much automatic ejections for unprotected hits on QBs after INTs. Saw one in the Texans-Chargers game that sent Schaub to the sidelines--absolutely no point but to injure a player. And all he got was a 15-yarder after the INT, and some nominal fine. Schaub has not been back.

I love how we can't review PI because it's subjective, but you can leave it up to a ref who to eject and who not to. If the guy was obviously trying to hurt someone, eject him. Otherwise, let them play.

I think they are taking the violence out of football which is ridiculous. Football is a violent sport. If they are trying to make it into a cream puff sport, it's going to ruin the game. I'm not in favor of cheap shots or late hits, but I think they are trying to get a little too technical in some of these penalties.

I realize a lot of the younger fans enjoy seeing a high scoring game and long bombs down the field, but I get as much enjoyment out of the QB getting destroyed on a sack.

Exactly why it is being implemented. THe NFL to a certain extent is a rigged game. Don't mean to come off as a conspiracy nut, but I think we all have seen either "phantom" calls or some really flagrant non calls to wonder if the game is really rigged to the outcome the NFL really wants. All this does is give the refs more legitimate reasons to throw a flag and alter the momentum of a game.

Firstly, thanks for spelling "ridiculous" correctly.

The real problem here is that an illegal hit on one player isn't an illegal hit on another. When a quarterback is moving around, is he running or throwing? The answer may cost you tens of thousands of dollars.

Read my previous post. The more subjective the call the better cover for a ref to throw a flag and change the momentum or outcome of a game, all the while looking legitimate. Sort of US like foreign policy and bombing the shit out of countries based on humanitarian reasons(regime change).

That's exactly why I have a problem with it. The less subjectivity to influence the momentum/outcome of a game... the better.

It's unfortunate, and I'm not sure an instant ejection is the right thing. I think here is a case where they should probably have a panel oversee and evaluate these things on a case by case basis to provide some consistency, take into account prior incidents, etc. The rules are still enforced, but just not so immediate.

I'll give the refs and the league the benefit of the doubt on this one. As long as this is reserved for truly malicious hits then I don't have a problem with it. But the first time someone gets thrown out of a close game for laying the wood down I'm writing a letter to the NFL.

Maybe replay should be used before someone is tossed? It's such a big deal that I wouldn't mind slowing the game down to get this right.

No doubt, it's going to affect some games down the stretch. In a backwards kind of way, it will benefit teams that do not pass-block well, and that do not have mobile QBs. Think it's going to hurt us. But that just means ST and LL (not to mention London) have to be smart about this!

That sucks, the next time Mike Carey refs one of our games our whole team is going to be ejected. Goodell did some good things but now hes just killing the game, now hes allowing them to put this rediculous rule in the game. This takes away greatly from aggressive defenses because they will have to pull up worrying about hits being to hard and getting ejected. The NFL is not even recognizable anymore.
