Story on Norv
Even on those dark Mondays which follow horrible Sunday losses, my heart can still be warmed by criticism of Norv.

Re: Story on Norv
Wow! The comments about Norv seem eerily similar to a certain Mr. Gibbs

Re: Story on Norv
I remember going to the Raiders loss either last year or the year before. All these Raiders fans just started screaming "Raider NATION!!!!" as loud as they could.
I pulled one of them aside and in the most calm and polite tone asked them one question. The crowd was muffled, mystified by my calm approach. "Excuse me sir, I have a quick question. Who is your head coach?".... The fan was puzzled and spitefully retorted "Norv Turner baby!!!!" "That's all I wanted to say, have a great season" Silence. |
Re: Story on Norv
Norvel was starting to turn things around when Mr. Synder decided to wreck things a few years back. I actually think Norv is a good guy who's in a nearly unwinnable situation. The Chargers were just plain stupid to get rid of Shottenheimer!

Norv is in an unwinnable situation? The Chargers job was widely regarded as the best possible job for a head coach. |
Re: Story on Norv
I refuse to watch charger games in HD. The thought of Norvs neck in HD makes me want to rip my eyes out.

Re: Story on Norv

Re: Story on Norv
Im no fan of Norv's he has no heart, but here are some interesting numbers:
Norv Turner (WAS) 49-62 in 6 3/4 years .441 win percentage Joe Gibbs 2 (WAS) 26-31 in 3.5 years .456 win percentage Norv Played against the 90's powerhouse cowboys twice a season too. |

Dude, we should have hung w/ Marty a few more years, like maybe ten. Marty has as good an eye for talent as any coach in the league, he just goes Gibbish under lots of pressure. Gibbish: The act of tightening one's game strategy to the point of strangulation. |
Re: Story on Norv
I always kind of thought that Norv got a raw deal from Snyder, given that the team was 7-6 and in playoff position at the time of his firing, but if there was any doubt about his abilities as a coach I think his performance in San Diego is answering it. That's arguably the most talented team in the league and they basically stink. I was rooting for Norv this time around, and to be honest I thought he could pull it off, but it's looking like he is who we thought he was.

Precisely. Then again, there are a few people on this site who bash Snyder but who wouldn't mind seeing Gibbs fired mid-season. |
Re: Story on Norv
Trivia question (and I don't actually know the answer, I'm looking for it): since the Super Bowl era began in 1967, are there any other coaches beside Norv Turner and Jack Patera (the Seahawks first head coach) who were invited back by their team for a sixth season after failing to reach the playoffs in any of their first five seasons?

First name that comes to mind is Jeff Fisher. But I think he made it in his fifth full year |
