Tampa Tribune:
Bucs Report Sports - from TBO.com Blogs

Tampa Tribune reporter Roy Cummings caught Cato June around the Bucs facility this afternoon, and although he did not say much, he was willing to talk about his DUI arrest.

“I really don’t have much to say about it ... I can’t say nothing, not right now at least ... I’m hungry,” June said.

Bucs coach Jon Gruden said he fully supported June during his normally scheduled Monday morning press conference.

“Well, we’re going to address it. We will address it privately with Cato,” Gruden said. “Obviously, anytime one of the players or coaches are involved in something like this, we’ll address it. I don’t believe it will be a distraction, but I think it can be something we all certainly learn from, grow from and we’re going to support our players anytime we can.

“We love Cato. I don’t think you’re going to find a better young man, but we’ll get the information on this and we’ll respond to it when we have all the facts.”

Tampa police arrested June, who turned 28 on Sunday, on North Dale Mabry Highway near Hillsborough Avenue at 2:52 a.m., according to a Tampa police report. In an arrest affidavit, Tampa police Officer Peter Bucher said his radar clocked June’s 2005 blue Cadillac sport utility vehicle at 66 mph on Dale Mabry Highway at Osborne Avenue. The Cadillac was in a 45 mph zone, the affidavit said.

The officer said he approached June and detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. June also had bloodshot and glassy eyes, the officer said in the affidavit.

June had a team-high nine tackles during Tampa Bay’s 31-7 victory against Atlanta on Sunday. He also forced a fumble by Falcons wide receiver Roddy White. June has recorded 49 tackles so far this year, 35 of which were unassisted, plus forced one fumble and has one interception.

“We have to [rally around June],” Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks said. “Obviously I don’t know when and what happened, but this have been a team that has always backed each other through trial and it’s not going to change now, believe me. We’re going to hug the man and obviously learn from his mistake. He’s going to learn from his mistake and we’re going to move on. It’s not anything we’re going to harp on.”

is this a team matter? or is it up to the commissioner to step in? i would think someone like dare is going to be up in arms if the bucs just look the other way

I doubt that he misses the game. Brandon marshall WR Denver also got popped for DUI and is still playing, then look at Travis Henry, etc. Discipline is slow.

Re: Cato June arrested for DUI

I think the law should be quicker on DUIs -- not the league. If he was sitting in jail on Sunday, whether the team or the league punishes him would be a moot point.

DUI is a serious offense, and it should be treated as such. A friend of mine told me a story once:

His friend's family of 4 was driving home one day, when all of a sudden a car with two drunk women in it lost control, flipped, and landed on top of the other car. The entire family was killed instantly.

It's a tragedy and a shame. This stuff happens, and you have people getting slapped on the wrist for DUIs. I'll bet if a DUI was charged as attempted murder (it really isn't much different, besides intent), there would be A LOT less DUIs.

It makes me sick.
