Mario Williams

After all the scrutiny and bad PR the Texans got over picking Williams over Vince Young and Reggie Bush, Mario Williams has been pulling his weight this year and then some.

I hate to hang my hat on one good season, but Mario just might be a franchise defensive end in the making. Seriously, he ate up Denver's backfield last night like a Happy Meal with 3 1/2 sacks.

I guess the moral of the story here is, never rush to judgement. Pardon the pun.

I was going to start this thread just now lol... are you watching nfl network?

Yes Mario, I'm sorry. I rushed to judgement and questioned why anyone would draft you over Reggie Bush. Now I seem to understand.

Re: Mario Williams

He's really going off this year. 13 sacks?! Damn

All the talk of him being a bust were very premature and really unfair in hindsight. He had nagging injuries last year that caused him to miss alot of valuable practice time.

But this year he's showing what he's really made of. Good for him.

Re: Mario Williams

I heard someone describe Bush as a "luxury back" which is an interesting term. To me he's the type of player who is much more valuable to ESPN for his highlights than he is to a team in terms of wins. To me, he's basically Donte Hall with the addition that he can play RB as well as WR. Nice to have, but hardly the foundation of a franchise. A solid DE, by contrast is gold, gold I say. Charley Casserly may come out smelling like a rose again in the end.

He was a beast last night. I was happy for him. He seems like a good hard working kid.

I know a lot of the posters on this board like to bash Charley Casserly but if I remember correctly wasn't it Casserly who picked Williams? Here is Peter King on ths subject.....

"Vindication should be Charley Casserly's. It's still early, and we can't judge the top of the 2006 draft after 1 3/4 seasons, but the last major decision Casserly made before being nudged into the CBS NFL Today studio show (where, by the way, he's doing a thorough, cool and insightful job) has turned out to be brilliant."

MYSELF
Damn you, and 12th

I was thinking, does this make Charlie Casserly smart again? The Texan's demonstrating masterful, bold maneuvering, rather than misguided buffoonery?
I'm sure the media wil have the answer

And Sage Rosenfeld has been playing fantastic. Plus, the Texans have had lots of injuries to overcome. Nice to see down here in Houston!

I dunno, I remember one play by Champ with a textbook wrap-up tackle.

He has been injured this year, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Sage played very well. I like rooting for him. Marty knew what he was doing when he drafted him I guess.

You guys read what Champ said after the game?

Somthing like, "We have no business losing to a team like this."

Re: Mario Williams

I find it extrememly foolish to rate ANY player as bust or star until after 2-3 seasons. I drafted Mario Williams in fantasy football after I heard a couple of friends talking about his ability to rise to the level of competition. I think he's going to get even better.

Re: Mario Williams

I say hire Charlie again and fire Vinny. The article that someone posted from The Washingtonian magazine mentioned that Charlie and Dan Snyder had a conversation where Charlie said "you fired the wrong guy" meaning him. After Dan fired Norv and running into Charlie he said "you were right".

Re: Mario Williams

I don't know if Charlie would come out of retirement, but they do need to get a general manager in there! We have to start utilizing the draft and free agency market better or we will never win consistently!
