What's the word on Golston?

I haven't heard much about Kedric this year. By the end of last season he had begun to turn some heads, and there was a lot of talk about him during the off-season. It seems though that the talk has died down. Has he been unproductive?

He's played quite a bit, he's 3rd in the rotation behind Montgomery and Griffin.

they view him as a run stopper, so he isnt on the field a bunch

He's blocked two kicks.

He didn't start against Detroit, in fact he was inactive due to the fact we needed more pass rushers that day. His game is playing the run, not rushing the passer.

Also I think Montgomery's progression kind gives him a view from the backseat. Still made some big plays this year (blocked kick) and provides solid depth at the DT position.

Speaking of blocked kicks, what's the rule if you blocked a field goal attempt? In the bears game, it appeared that Golston did block it, but isn't it considered like a fumble? Because the bears were treating it like it was and they were rushing to the ball after the block to down it on the 2 yard line. Instead, the Skins took over at the 20 yard line (like a touch-back).

I don't remember where the kick was from but in the NFL any kick within the 20 yard that is blocked or missed is borught out to the 20 the change of possession.

If a blocked kick is behind the LOS it is treated like a fumble and can be advanced by either team. If it advances beyond the LOS then it treated like a punt and can only be advanced by the defending team.

Re: What's the word on Golston?

We are still a team with one good DT - C. Griffen, and he is getting old.
Not to be rude or sound negative, but I have never been impressed with either Golston or Montgomery. They are very inconsistent. They flash a good play here and there between a lot of mediocre play. Montgomery is a big body that lacks the aggressive strong play to push people backwards. Golston on the other hand does occasionally become a disruptive force, but he also gets handled. Both are inconsistent.
We need another DT.

Based on the Salary Cap, you have to get what you can out of non star talent.

Goldston is what he is. Just an average role player. However I think Montgomery is on his way to being quite a nice find.

I think we have bigger fish to fry.

Overall the d-line has played well this season.

Re: What's the word on Golston?

If there's a DT the staff is really high on & he's available w/our first pick, I would think they'd take him. I think o & d line will be the priority in the draft & they'll take the best player regardless of position.

Golston's name hasn't been called a lot, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been doing an adequate job of stuffing his man to make way for the LBs. He's never going to be a star or might not even be a long term starter.
