Vick - Drug Rehab
Vick to drug rehab program? (Richmond.com)
"There are indications disgraced NFL quarterback Michael Vick is no longer behind bars in Virginia and has gone to a drug rehabilitation program in Kansas. U.S. Bureau of Prisons officials could not immediately be reached by The Times-Dispatch, but the bureau's Web site shows Vick as being "in transit." According to a weekend report on Yahoo! Sports, Vick applied to join a prison-monitored drug rehabilitation program in Leavenworth, Kan., and has apparently been moved to the facility. Vick, 27, was sentenced Dec. 10 to 23 months for his role in a dogfighting operation run from a property he owns in Surry County. Vick was originally being held at a state-run jail in Warsaw on Virginia's Northern Neck. Vick's three co-defendants all received lighter sentences than Vick, partly because the Atlanta Falcons quarterback had failed a drug test for marijuana after pleading guilty to the dogfighting charges. According to the Yahoo! report, Vick will be held in a minimum security wing at Leavenworth." Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
For all we know the rehab facility is more like a vacation than a prison sentence. Who knows, i'm sure we will hear more about it during the next few days.

Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
Lame ass excuse to get outta the slammer.If it's true, I can't believe he's getting away with it. If you really want off drugs just keep your ass locked up.
Prison=Rehab. |

Prison=Rehab.
That is the way the system works. ESPN First Take said that it was a offensive plan by his lawyers to purposely fail the drug to get him into drug rehab program & his sentence will be reduced for the pass the program for good behavior. |
Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
Now it sort of makes sense as to why he failed that drug test. At the time it didn't make sense that he would continue to do pot if the knew they would test him. At that point he knew he would plead guilty so he/his lawyer was setting it up so he would spend part of the time in rehab. I work with someone who has done a bit of time and he said rehab is no where nearly as bad as prison. Plus review boards often take something like that into consideration when deciding to grant parole. So serving time in rehab is easier and may cut time off his sentence.
Then again prehaps I am giving him too much credit. |
Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
Reason one million to legalize marijuana. Keep Vick in jail!!!
|
Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
This is such BS! If he get's to do this I'll be pretty pissed hopefully the judge will be able to see through it like we can. He's a pro athlete that smoked pot big deal. Any rational person can see that this is a ploy to get out of jail.

Re: Vick - Drug Rehab
He is in prison. He has smoked pot before no different then anyone else drinking alchol. Both are drugs of addictions. He could go to take substance abuse classes for alcohol just as easy for a time cut also. It is part of the game when one is in prison to get a time cut. He is no different then any other offender.

Exactly. During law school I worked in a legal aid clinic that provided legal advice to federal inmates. MANY inmates wanted to get access to the drug rehab program; knowing that successfully completing the program would reduce their sentences. That being said, the drug rehab wing of the prison I often went to was no vacation destination. I would bet a good 50% of the people here on this site would pee their pants if they had to stay in such "accomodations" for a week or so. The guards and staff do their best, the facilities are not wretched, and it's not Shawshank, but it's no Club Med either. |
