Nope, he is going insane because he was supposed to be able to go to Berlin safely with the americans about to win the war. It was right before he died, he was furious because the airbase in the city had been taken over.

No, he's just found out that no reinforcements can relieve the besieged city of Berlin--a last attempt by one of his generals has failed to affect the Russian advance. He is in Berlin, in his bunker, below the Reich's Chancellery. The movie--"Downfall" in English, is a grim hyper-real recounting of his last days. Not exactly a date movie. Well, I guess it depends on who you date...

Great performance by Bruno Ganz, but I wasn't keen on feeing even one iota of sympathy or anything for those fuckers. Go Zhukov!
