Official Kenny Phillips Thread!!!!

How many people are for/against Kenny Phillips if he falls to us? I don't like starting useless threads, but two good DBs are in our sites. KP and Brandon Flowers. Feedback!!!

Re: Official Kenny Phillips Thread!!!!

A lot of draft sites have him late first round ;] ;] ;] ;] and Brandon Flowers too... I think we should trade up to early second. Take Phillips at #21 and get Flowers if possible with that early second.

OMG I just saw it!

Starting secondary for the 2008-09 Redskins!

CB#1 - Brandon Flowers
CB#2 - Shawn Springs
CB#3 - Fred SMOOOOOT
CB#4 - (whenever he comes back) Carlos Rogers

SS - Laron Landry
FS - (ST clone) Kenny Phillips

[or if we can't get Flowers, flip Landry and Phillips. That takes a LOT of pressure off the middle, and our coverages.]

Wow, that sounds good.

brandon flowers would not be our numbe one corner. And no matter how good your secondary is if you have NO pass rush they will get picked apart

yeah we need some D line help. A good D line makes an average def backfield look good.

Harvey would be a great pickup. I have a feeling though we won't move up to take him. I've hoped that we get Kenny Phillips, but don't know if that's a little too weird and almost a guaranteed disapointment waiting to happen. Noone will ever be ST #21. Even though I'd love for Phillips to be a Redskin, I think the team will shy away from this move. Flowers would be a good 2nd or later 1st than 21st.

Brandon Flowers is 5'9", ran a 4.6 at the combine, and had a 30" vertical. So he is a short guy, with very little explosion, who played the boundary corner at Tech (i.e. shorter side of the field). If I'm not mistaken, Tech runs a ton of zone coverage and their corners are not asked to play much man. Corners coming out of that program have not had a whole of success, with the exception (maybe, but you could argue he is overrated) DeAngelo Hall. But Hall has elite athletic skills, which Brandon Flowers obviously does not possess. No thanks to Flowers, no thanks to Phillips, unless they drop down to the 2nd or 3rd (for Flowers) rounds.

DL, DL, DL.

And why do we make "official _______" threads?

Yes, IMO I'm more concerned at the DE/DT positions first (but of course best player whoever it might be). We will have to address the safety position for depth either in mid/latter rounds or FA.

And the almighty "official" if its going to be an "official" thread it should be in the correct forum.......like lets say, NFL Draft Central wouldn't that make it a little more "official" .......lol

we could use a late 3rd and get a starting safety. no need to use our first unless absolutely no one else we like is there. phillips is good, but he's not the next ST.

You're right about most of it, VT does play a lot of zone, but they also have the boundary cb play tight man a lot at the line of scrimmage. Flowers is definitely a good cover 2 cb. He's a little small but he's very physical. No way I'm suggesting grabbing him w/our 1st, but he's a good value in the 2nd or 3rd. IF his 40 time & size really drops him that far, he's a steal in the 3rd.

Phillips is a great talent & interviews well, seems pretty bright & level headed. I just can't see using that pick on a safety given that we need depth at that position more than a starter. If he actually lasts that long to pick #21, it will be hard to pass him up though.
