This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
The 1996 NFL draft will forever be known as "The Year of the Receiver." Future NFL stars Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens, Joe Horn, Terry Glenn, Keyshawn Johnson, Eddie Kennison, Eric Moulds, Mushin Muhammad, Amani Toomer and Bobby Engram were all selected over the same weekend back in April of '96.
'Eleven years later, nine of those 10 players were on NFL rosters in '07, with only Keyshawn — the top pick overall in that draft — not suiting up on Sundays. Johnson, of course, spent Sundays last season in Bristol, Conn., working as an analyst for ESPN. Want to know about the next generation of NFL stars? We've got you covered as the clock ticks down toward the 2008 draft. Last year's draft class of receivers proved to be somewhat bountiful as well. No. 2 overall selection Calvin Johnson had a promising rookie campaign, fellow first-rounders Dwayne Bowe, Ted Ginn, Craig Davis and Anthony Gonzalez were all solid contributors, and later-round picks Steve Smith, Sidney Rice and James Jones all played significant roles on some of the NFC's top teams. Add in the intriguing prospect of productive second years from 2007 rookie flops Robert Meachem and Dwayne Jarrett, and that's a pretty solid batch of receivers.' -click the link to read the whole thing. Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
Another good reason:
we need to draft a DB in the first round b/c thats what we need most. |
Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
Vinny Cerrato siad, that he does not think that there is a reciever, in this draft, that is worth a first round draft choice. Maybe, he is just trying to throw other teams off, but that is what he said.

Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
i dont think there isn't really a corner worth drafting the first round except maybe cromarties cousin...we should've went after Randall Gay or maybe even deangelo hall for a second rounder.

Well I'd draft an impact d-lineman in the first if there were good ones available, but if he's still on the board I would love to see DRC in a 'Skins uni. I think a tall WR should be a priority in the second round though provided some of the bigger names are still available.

Mike Jenkins from USF will be a shutdown corner in 2-3 years.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, corners. Alright time for my latest bunch of propoganda.
Safetys are the new corners. For now I'll just keep it simple. Who has done more for their respective defenses? DeAngelo Hall and Champ Bailey or Bob Sanders and Troy Polamlu. By the way does anyone even know off the top of their head who the starting corners are for the Colts and Steelers? Also the last time we took a corner in the draft we passed up on Shawn Meriman. |

I mean if Champ Bailey and Troy Polamalu were on the same team, and each missed five games (not together) can you definitively say that the team would be better off in the five games Champ missed? But more importantly, you're not the defensive coordinator of the Redskins. And neither am I. Greg Blache is. And Mr. Blaches says: "A lot of people disagree with me on this but I firmly believe that in order to be successful on defense in today's football it starts with your corner position." Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
^^ i remember reading that blache said that. I just hope we can trade down and get 2-2nd rounders cus that would be awesome. Hopefully the falcons will want to pick up whoever we have at 21.

Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
I agree, but I think a 2nd or 3rd round WR will not fill our #2 WR spot. We need FA or a trade. Since there's nobody left in FA, then let's trade.

we need linemen. its that simple. and if the redskins felt that corner was that pressing of a need, Mr. Hall would be in Washington right now

maybe it isn't "that pressing of a need" but there are a couple other good reasons d. hall isn't here: 1) his $ demands, 2) his attitude. That doesn't mean it's not a position of need. I wouldn't be surprised if we took a cb, wr, de w/our 1st pick, I think it'll come down to who is the best available player from a select few positions. |

Rogers-Cromartie is nothing special. He is a track star playing football. Some team is going to pick him in the first round because of his impressive 40 time and he is more than likely going to bust. Please don't let it be us. FILM DOES NOT LIE ! |
Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
While you can say that film doesn't lie, you're also saying it from the eye of a non-football professional. There are many intricacies that coaches see that we don't. Just because I saw someone get burned in a certain game, doesn't mean they're any less capable of playing in the NFL.

Re: This is a GOOD reason why we shouldn't touch a WR in the 1st.
What about a draft day trade of the #21 pick...I would like to pick up a 2nd and possibly a later pick in this years draft OR a day 1 pick in next years draft. Reasons:
- looks like we are positioning ourselves to make some moves during next year's offseason so it would be good to pick up an extra pick or two (as trade potential or to make up for players to be cut to make room for big $ FA's). - this draft is deep, and if we can draft a player with little talent drop off in the 35-50 range as we do at the 21 spot, I think that we should do it. - Imagine if we were able to get 3 picks in next year's draft in the first two rounds (our 2 + 1 we acquire in this transaction)...thats how you build quality depth and secure urself for many years to come... - We have some vets who are getting old but still have at least one or two good seasons left in them. They can hold out for their replacements to be drafted for one more year. - Along with the previous point, our superstars aren't going anywhere for the next 4-5 years and if we can build quality depth over the next 2 years, we can make a run for something of a dynasty in future years. - Just in case we do go after Cowher next year when he is ready, it would be good to give him as many picks as possible...(keepin the dream alive, haha :cheeky-sm) |
