Clark Judge: With Cerrato Now Calling Shots, 'Skins May Finally Have a Front-office Game Plan

ASHBURN, Va. -- Seldom has a promotion produced less of a response than Washington's naming of Vinny Cerrato as its executive vice president of football operations, but don't kid yourself: That shouldn't diminish the significance of the move.

With it, Cerrato ascends to a position where he can shape and determine the Redskins' immediate future, and if you don't believe me you weren't paying attention to the team's last coaching hire.

It was Cerrato who swung the votes in favor of Jim Zorn. It was Cerrato who headed the search for the team's new public relations director, too. It was Cerrato who urged owner Daniel Snyder to avoid the free-agent frenzy. And it will be Cerrato who takes the wheel for the club's next spin around the NFL Draft.

"I have a lot more say-so," he said.

Well, then, it's about time.

We are still talking about the Redskins, Right? If you could take the reports that are coming out this year, and post them last year, how many of you would belive them? Not me.

Looks like with a game plan, we may actually be a threat to the league this year!

Woo Hoo! No more Tom-foolery!

Its kinda funny how everyone laughed when it took a month to get a coach, and now we have signed zero free agents. So it almost appears like we dont know what we are doing, that we were leading on coachs to think they ahd the job...

then all of a sudden doing nothing turns into, "look at our great master plan we are following"

gotta love the media!

I wish we could fast forward a fwe things to see how it all plays out

Well I don't recall Clark Judge ever saying we didn't know what we were doing on our coaching search.

I really can't stand that. You can't lump the media all together as if they're one voice. Just because a handful of columnists ridiculed us during the coaching search doesn't mean all columnists agree. Judge clearly likes our approach this offseason and hasn't uttered a word to the contrary. Each member of the media has their own opinion and should be treated as such.

Some members of the media are going to ridicule us. Others are going to praise us. Since nobody has a crystal ball, you're bound to get conflicting opinions.

That's all they are, opinions.

Great read. Nice to see someone out there recognizing what's going on here and not just bashing because it's the Redskins.

I really like the fact that we finally have someone in the front office to hold accountable. In the past it's always been a mystery as to who exactly was calling the shots. Now we know it's Vinny's ship.

If that gameplan inculudes taking Albert then I will fight the rest of you to the death when you bash Cerrato, well unless until Albert becomes a bust. In that case I would hide under a rock and cry.

If Cerrato pulls this off the fanbase will have to find a new guy to hate.

The only posts that I've seen from you have been snide remarks, go back to your Giants forum to make fun of everyone else. I think that having 8mil cap space could afford us a few free agents, not to mention if we really wanted to clear some more space, we could've.

Danny can AFFORD sign half of the Giants fans in the country if he wanted to. He chose not to restructure players' contracts by paying out their salaries in the form of a bonus like he always did before. Get your facts straight.

We are still roughly 8 mil under the cap even after we sign our rookies after the draft.

I didn't realize the fans were players, in that case sign me up I'd be glad to take some of Danny's millions. He seems to give away monster deals like candy anyways. Hows Brandon Lloyd working out for ya anyways?

Actually we're about $7.0 - $7.5 million under now, then after we sign the rookies we'll be about $3.0 - $3.5 million under, and then when Lloyd clears from the books in June we'll be $5.5 - $6.0 million under.
