More of The U for the D?
Okay, burgundies and golds, here’s a hopeful, yet reasonably plausible, theory of how we will and/or should address the d-line through the draft:
*drum roll Since last off-season, we’ve seen and heard how the FO is placing greater importance on signing players with whom our staff is familiar. This, of course, has been applied to free agency thus far. However, we are in the somewhat unique position to be able to apply this philosophy to the draft. Our new d-line coach, John Palermo, was the d-line coach for the Miami Hurricanes in 2006. This just so happened to be the best year of projected mid-to-late first round DE Calais Campbell’s college career. We should bolster our pass rush and add some more youthful talent to our line by selecting Campbell in the 1st round. We should use the first of our 7th round picks (if not our 6th rounder) to target Campbell’s line-mate, DT Teraz McCray. He is a late 2nd or 3rd round worthy player who will likely drop considerably due to an extensive injury history. It is no stretch to think we could get him in the 7th round. He could be a great addition to the DT rotation. Campbell had a poor showing at the combine and seemed to regress last year. Both these things have hurt his draft stock, making it very likely that he will be available to us at 21 overall. Despite this, with his combination of size, talent and the potential he deomonstrated in ’06, he has tremendous upside. And who better than the same coach that already brought his best out of him 2 years ago to take another crack at it? Agreed? |
Re: More of The U for the D?
we can get Calais Campbell in the 2nd...... many mock drafts are on board with that already
I would definitely take him, but not till the 2nd at the earliest.... then I will allow the Jordy Train to pick up the 3rd round Wide Out burner |

campbell falling to the 2nd round and the redskins being able to get him in the 2nd round are two very different things. he is widely considered the 4th best DE propect. with the top 2 DE's likely gone in the top 10 or 15 overall, i don't think we are likley to see him in the bottom 1/3 of the 2nd round. |

touche.... I should have pointed that out as well |
Re: More of The U for the D?
The more I hear him talk, the more I like Kenny Phillips -- but not sure how much money (and future money) I want to tie up at safety.

Re: More of The U for the D?
from what I have read, he is the only Safety worth taking on day 1

IF:
1) Calais Campbell is available at our 2nd round selection, AND 2) We didn't take a DE, like Phillip Merling in the first round Then we should select him in the second, for sure. |

yeah, i chose not to mention it in this thread, but i've stated in several others that if kenny falls to us, we've got to take him. we should have had something special with sean & laron. if we get kenny, maybe we can still have that within a couple of years. |
Re: More of The U for the D?
Kenny Phillips would be a great addition to the team, but it is unlikely that he will fall that far. If he does, the Skins will should grab him!
|
Re: More of The U for the D?
I really think he is goin to be there when we pick 4 real cuz they have the other kid morgan as the #1 safety, and i don't really se another that will draft him: any one know what his 40. time was?
|
Re: More of The U for the D?
or c.rogers should play safety cuz be honest he doesn't have long speed. i know i am not tha only one that see that he is always gettin beat or flag for something but he is very physical and he loves to hit. he can be a good safety.

Re: More of The U for the D?
carlos is too small to be a safety.. esp since we're looking for a strong safety

Re: More of The U for the D?
Ironically I didnt start this thread!
Id rather have phillips with out first round pick. Campbell definitely wont be there when we pick in the second. First Round Pick - Kenny Phillips Second Round - Traded for Chad Johnson Third - Defensive End Fifth - Traded for Pac Man Bring all the hate you want, but having CJ on offense, and Pac Man and Phillips on defense...Id love to see it |

He would be a bigger bust than Brandon Lloyd, and that is saying something. As for Pac Man, Vinny stated that the FO has absolutely no interest in Pac Man. On ES there was a thread that was recapping Vinny on Redskins radio saying that. |
