Rebate Checks
What do you guys plan to do with your tax rebate check? If you're not getting one are you bitter?
|
Re: Rebate Checks
If you're not getting one you either don't really pay taxes to begin with or you make so much that even the wealthy-loving Federal govt can't see giving you any more dinero. In either case, you shouldn't be bitter.
I'm going to pay off a credit card with mine. Which is pretty much exactly the opposite of the intent. |
Re: Rebate Checks
Bills. The money always goes to bills.

Re: Rebate Checks
It's paying for a small bit of my college classes this summer.
|
Re: Rebate Checks
I'm going to upgrade my kitchen appliances. Obviously the check won't pay for all of it but it will take care of a nice chunk.
|
Re: Rebate Checks
Going to remodel my kitchen (it's small and mostly entails a couple cabinets and knocking out a wall). Going to be doing it myself except for the plumbing (which eats up about a third of the check). Couple of new cabinets, new countertop and tons and tons of elbow grease. Probably going to exceed the rebate but not by a whole lot.
|
Re: Rebate Checks
And, since most of the remodel is for my wife's new busines, I am going to write a good portion of the expense off. :)
|
Re: Rebate Checks
I recently gutted a bathroom. it will pay for some of the un-gutting process
|
Re: Rebate Checks
Mine is going into my kitchen re-modeling fund. I can't wait to get rid of these cabinets and appliances. We bought a foreclosure/fixer upper five years ago and we've basically built a whole new house. The kitchen re-model is the last project and should be done in next few months. Hallelujah!

Re: Rebate Checks
Paying off the car. That'll open up a good bit of money each month to help me get outta' this town!
|
Re: Rebate Checks
This will cover most of my rent for May.
I don't plan on buying anything that I wouldn't normally. |
Re: Rebate Checks
:food-smilI thought I would spend mine on strippers and booze... that way it can then help the entertainers with their spending also.:FIREdevil

Re: Rebate Checks
I'm saving it. Gotta add to the rainy day fund.

Re: Rebate Checks
New dinette set and a new mattress set. Kid's getting her share thrown into an ING Savings account, and the leftover will help put gasoline in the goddamn cars!

Re: Rebate Checks
I'm not getting one and I'm bitter. If I were getting one it would have payed for a new GPS system to replace my stolen GPS.
Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator You do not qualify for an economic stimulus payment According to law, the economic stimulus payment amount that you would otherwise be entitled to receive is reduced by 5% of the amount that your Tax Year 2007 Adjusted Gross Income exceeds $75,000. You would have been eligible for an economic stimulus payment of $600, but your AGI exceeds $75,000 by enough to reduce that amount to zero. However, if your situation changes during 2008, you may be able to claim an economic stimulus credit on your Tax Year 2008 return.
|
Re: Rebate Checks
I'm getting $600, and I plan on buying some summer clothes. I need some shorts and golf shirts. I'll probably spend half of it and throw the other half into savings. I heard this morning on CNN that the first people to receive the rebates are those who used direct deposit when filing their tax return. I used direct deposit, but it was through TurboTax. Does anyone know if that counts, or does it have to be direct deposit used straight through ww.irs.gov??

Re: Rebate Checks
I'm going to trade my ps2 for a ps3. On the other hand I know the need to be responsible, so I'll probably save at least $10 or $20 of it.;)

Re: Rebate Checks
I'm not getting one and I'm bitter. Not towards the government, but towards my mother.
She intends on claiming me until I finish college and thus, no rebate check for me. :( |

Enough not to get a rebate check and not enough to be rich ;);) I'm actually surprised that many in here are getting money back. Maybe it has to do with being married and having kids? |
Re: Rebate Checks
How do you know how much to expect? Does everyone that qualifies get the $600?
|
Re: Rebate Checks
The IRS website can help you determine how much you'll get back

You can use this calculator by the IRS to see if you're getting one. |

I'm actually surprised that many in here are getting money back. Maybe it has to do with being married and having kids?
Yes, that's exactly the case. If you file as a single person, and you make over $75K, you get nothing back. If you are married and file jointly, and you make over $150K between the two of you, you get nothing back. Otherwise, the single person gets $600 and the married couple gets $1200. So if I were on my own as a single dude, I'd be in the same boat as you. But luckily the wife's lame ass salary keeps us below the $150K mark as a couple. Each kid gives you another $300 as well. I knew they were good for somethin! |
Re: Rebate Checks
I'll be getting $300 back. My money is going to have to go towards buying a really cheap car since I don't have one right now. My mom traded in the minivan I was driving so she could get a new car and now I don't have a car. I got a job last month but when I told them I didn't have a car they let me go because they said the bus wasn't "reliable transportation". So now I have no job and no car lol and my parents don't have money to help me get a cheap little car.

Re: Rebate Checks
I'm buying an Armalite AR 30 in .338 Lapua. :)

Wow, is that legal? I mean, have you missed work because you were taking the bus? |

va is an employment at will state i believe, so anyone can fbasically ire anyone for almost any reason. they may be eligible for unemployment if the firing was not their fault, but this is not a "right to work" state. |

Yup aside from racial, religous, age discsimnation and similar isseus you can be fired for anything in VA at any time. No reason needed actually. |

Re: Rebate Checks
Wow, is that legal? I mean, have you missed work because you were taking the bus?
I didn't miss work because of the bus, but the first day I got there I was late because the busses where I live almost never are on time. I told them I had to ride the bus because I didn't have a car yet and they told me that because they don't consider the bus to be reliable I either needed to get a car or they would let me go, and since I wasn't able to get a car they let me go. And yeah, what FRPLG said is basically true. |
