Re: Tiger Woods Done For The Season

I made the comment to my father that if he was in the pain which it seemed he was in that he could be done for the rest of the year or for a good portion of the year. I hope he has a full recovery and this is not the start of his hard golf swing taking its toll on his body. If the later is the case I think he is good enough to adjust his swing.

I'd rather watch him play for another 10-15 years than watch him destroy himself this year. Good call.

It just goes to show you how amazing he is. He played with a subpar knee and still won on one of the grandest stages. Amazing.

A ruptured ACL and two stress fractures and he still won 5 of the 7 tournaments he played in this year. Amazing. I'm sure he'll have the best orthopedic surgeons on earth fix that knee properly. Knowing Tiger's work ethic, he'll meticulously rehab and have another amazing season next year.

Re: Tiger Woods Done For The Season

The fact that he ruptured the ACL last July and still managed to win 10 of 13 tournies he entered, and finish no worse than 5th in the other 3 shows just how good he really is.

On the flipside, this will give some other golfers a chance to show their stuff while everyone still has Tiger's 5 round US Open win fresh in their minds.

Greatest athlete of all time, any sport?

Gotta get those 19 majors, but this is the kind of thing that makes you think he belongs in that discussion.

Re: Tiger Woods Done For The Season

He was playing on a torn ACL and double stress fracture. Ridiculous.

Yeah I mean com'on. A torn ACL and a double stress fracture on top of arthro 2 months ago? That is just insane. I know golf isn't the most physically demanding sport but most guys in any major sport wouldn't walk around in normal life with that makeup. If anything this shows his level of determination and how distinctly high it is.

This is why I love the guy. I am not a normal bandwagoneer for the big sports figures but I am totally in the tank for Tiger. It isn't often that someone can reasonably say they are watching the best ever at something. Especially in sports. I hope the knee gets better and he comes back and wins all four majors next year to tie the Bear.

wow, that guy is nuts.

hats off, and no doubt he'll be back to top immediately following his return... but it's not like he's ever left the top anyways.

Did anyone see TigerCenter last night oh I mean SportsCenter? Talk about a Tiger lovefest. I thought he died at first with all the coverage.

I'm right there with you, by far my favorite golfer.

He's like Jordan. How could you ever hate Jordan?

It's hard to imagine that we wouldn't, because he won the US Open on a torn ACL. I can't see him getting worse with a pain-free knee. But I get what you're saying, and I'd hate to see that happen. Right now I try to catch every single Major on TV because it's frankly a privelege to watch him achieve what he's achieving.

Kinda like how a part of us would all like to go back in time to see Babe Ruth play, our great grand kids will wish they could go back in time to see Tiger. And we're getting to see it first hand.

He might have to change his swing again, though. That's my only concern. I love the guy, he's my favorite golfer, but with all the problems he's having with that knee it might be time to slow down the swing and the torque on that left knee.

He hasn't relied on his power in years. He's not even in the top 25 for driving distance:
ESPN - PGA Tour Statistics - Golf

If he can stand, he'll find a way to win.

It begs the question...how did no doctor see or do anything about this last year?
ESPN estimated he walked over 21 miles during his win. This certainly puts that US open performance on the top of my list as the greatest golfing performances ever.

They said they knew about the tear 11 months ago and I think the question is why did they operate on the knee and not repair the tear at the same time? I think what he did was great but he also said he only really felt pain after his swing and not when he was walking. I like Tiger but I just get tired of the media hype around him. I'm sure we are going to hear ton's about Tiger even though he is not playing and this week it going to be nothing but Tiger while this weeks match is played. It will even be worse when they play the next two majors of the year and who ever wins there will be that question what if Tiger was playing.

Repairing the tear means rest and rehab, which I assume Tiger wasn't ready for...

Wow, did not know that...if they KNEW, they should have done something about it. But I guess that's just me.

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, this is the best golfer the world has ever seen, it's hard to imagine having too much hype on such a player. That being said, I love rooting for the underdog like Phil M., etc, but I still salute a dominate player like Tiger, and feel blessed to be able to watch his talent. I rooted for Rocco, but didn't really care when he lost.
