Fox Sports: Redskins Happy To Avoid The Media Hype For Once

The franchise returns almost all the key components from a roster that made the playoffs in 2007. Yet in a division featuring the defending Super Bowl champion (New York Giants) and the conference favorite for this year's title game (Dallas), the Redskins are considered an NFC East afterthought. Oddsmakers have even installed Washington as a bigger underdog to reach Super Bowl XLIII than Philadelphia. That suits the Redskins just fine. |
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
He repeatedly refers to Chris Samuels as "Chris Samuel".

Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
I like flying under the radar. That's why steal bombers are so effective..lol
I will say this. I dont know what we are going to be ranked in the NFC. But it definitely wont be last. Two things I am predicting though. The Giants are going to fall off. I think they got hot last season. But their defensive leader and team leader is gone in Strahan. They ahve overhauled their defense and not for the better. How can you let the players that help you win a Superbowl go on defense. Then they let Shockey go. Boss or Voss whatever his name is was a good back-up but he is not Shockey. I dont think Manning can lead this team by himself. People respect him but probably not as much as they respected Strahan. That being said. I have them and the Eagles fighting for the last spot in the NFC East and maybe a Wild Card birth. The Eagles: As long as McNabb is healthy they should have a good year. they fnished pretty strong last year. But Westbrook is their only threat..which is a good one..But you need more than that..Curtis will play decent..and Desean Jackson will meet Dirty 30. Also Desean may be a good player but I dont think he is a difference maker. I think Asante Samuels will get burnt by our WRs. So that leaves us and Dallas. I really see both teams going around 11-5 give or take a game. If our defense is solid and JC stays healthy..I see no way we couldn't reach 11-5. Probably will split out NFC East games and take a lost to two or three teams..Giving our tough schedule..I think that it wont be easy. But if we get on a roll early. It will be easier for us to make the playoffs since the most of our remaing in games are at home. BUT..nothing is a give in. But I feel Zorn is a solid coach and very intelligent and eventhough its the preseason I see less penalties and better execution. The only thing we have to do is stay healthy and focused and we will be ok. |
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
Currently, I feel injuries will tell the tale of the NFC East. Whoever takes more critical injuries the farther they'll fall. I don't understand the Eagles hype. When was the last time McHurt played 16 games?

Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
pretty good writerup as a whole enjoyed it!!!
|
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
I still don't understand the media hype on Philly...they have no #1 WR and McNabb's health is a gamble. Oh well, I do like the lack of hype for us...the last time our team was considered a SB favorite, we went 5-11.
|
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
Its a great thing. I think we are looking really good but the first 5 games are going to mean a lot in our season. By week 6 we (and everyone else) should know basically where we stand in this division.
|
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
I wouldn't be so quick to write off the Giants. Unless Manning has a slump they have all the tools to be a force again this season. People say we're flying under the radar, but according to everything I've heard, the Giants have already crashed and burned.
The football world has fallen in love with the Cowchips in the NFC East this year, so NY already feels like they have something to prove -- and that's going to be one pissed off team on Sept. 4th. |
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
Samuels , Kendall , Rahbach , Thomas , Jansen , Cooley < TE > . If that line is one of the three best , we will be very tough to beat . Along with Sellers and Yoder we could be dominant in the running game . Montgomery, Griffen , Golston could be the best DT rotation we have had in years , that would make Taylor and Carter even more effective . Should DE'S , Wilson / James / Evans make an impact along with the returns of Rocky and Rogers we should have a top 5 Defense . NO INJURIES !!!!!

Those 3 are serviceable at best. Griffin is on the downside of his career and neither Golston or Montgomery have established themselves as dominate in any way. I could be proved wrong if the ends have really good years. The double teams will be on Taylor and Carter and that leaves the tackles in one on one situations or the other team has to keep in backs and TEs to block. Thebest scenario as you pointed out is NO INJURIES! If either one of our stud DEs goes down that opens up so much more for the other teams O.

wait and see for me i,m not getting all the hopes up just yet..but thus far i like what i,m seeing...

Should Montgomery and Golston Improve enough this year that both could start and give C. Griff. some more relief , we should be stronger this year up front . I would love for a stud DT or DE to be sitting on the board when our first pick comes up next April . Would like another Tre Johson to be drafted also .

Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
This happens EVERY year.
Even last year, we get trashed and picked for last place (our usual prediction position)....what happens, we have the most devastating season for losing players (injuries and Sean) and we make the playoffs again. |

Plus, if Westbrook goes down, they can't win, let alone even score. He's their entire offense. Any team in that position is far from solid. |

I agree, except that Griffin, when healthy, still demands a double team. That helps Taylor and Carter a lot. Last year there were times when Montgomery was demanding a double team as well. You can't double team everyone. Our pass rush should be pretty good if we stay healthy and Gohlston and Montgomery have improved. |

Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
Confucious say: One who fly under radar, crash into mountainside.

Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
We got a lot of stuff going right, our offensive line is healthy with some veteran back ups. Our defensive line has been rebuilt (w/ Taylor and James). We have an offensive minded head coach, we should be able to put up enough points to finally help the defense. We have some help (Lloyd was the opposite of helpful) in the receiving corps (to include TE's). The running game is improved; better blocking; better plays. We have good safety help and an excellent medical staff. I feel great with the current squad; in a few weeks the world will know the Redskins are the best!!

ha ha..very funny....however, who was supposedly going to stink up the NFC east last year....the GIANTS... and who was supposed to win the super bowl....cowgirls. I prefer to be in the shoes of the Giants |

The last time Mchurt played all sixteen games was in 2003 and his chances don't look good for this year. |

Close, it was actually 2002, but I concur. |
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
whenever we're under the radar we rock. When we're in the spotlight we choke. They're giving philly all this credit and McNabb struggled looked okay verse second string defense. We have a pretty favorable schedule i think its not impossible to end with a 11 or 10 win season.

I was under the impression that we had a very tough schedule...@ G-Men, Cowgirls and Iggles during the first five games? I would call that tough. |

Competition is ALWAYS tough in the NFC East. I think what he means is teams outside our division. Our divison plays the AFC North and NFC West, and they are pretty weak, the most wins from each division last year was 10. |

Before anyone says that the cards are always somebody's dark horse every year, just take a look at that team and how they've played us recently. They were 8-8 last year and we barely beat them, they shut down our O & we scored a td on D. Couple years earlier we barely beat them when former Warpath all pro Antonio Brown returned a kickoff for a td. |

Yeah, and with regard to the Philly support, Mike and Mike this morning both predicted an 8-8 finish for us, and they did so largely on the basis of their opinion that between Philly and Washington, the Redskins are the odd team out in the NFC East. They did, however, both agree that they wouldn't be surprised if we won 11 games. But still, they put themselves in the strangely popular Philly-over-Washington camp. |
Re: Fox Sports: Redskins Flying Under The Radar
