Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
I think Goodell has to do the consistent thing (particularly if you compare it to Chris Henry) and lay the hammer down on Larry Johnson

The Associated Press: Chiefs RB Johnson faces third assault charge
I recently saw this in yesterdays paper and I had imagined that Goodell would have done something, but I guess I was wrong. Seriously if this was the first time I could possibly give him the benefit of the doubt, but a third time? Personally I always thought that LJ sucked as a person, dating back to his days with Dick Vermill, all the way until recently where he bitched about not getting the ball but I never thought he was this type of scum. I wish the Chiefs would just cut him. I don't care if he is in the top 10 in rushing. Give Jamal Charles a shot and draft Knowshawn Moreno next year. |
Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
Goodell has said they're looking into it, but as you say this isn't a first time charge

Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
Well he took no action with Belichick (the team was punished, but not the coach) and he won Coach of the Year last year despite Spygate.

Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
If all he did was push back some groupie who was grabbing at him in a club, that would not be grounds for suspension in my eyes. This sounds more to me like someone looking to file a frivolous lawsuit. I'm not saying LJ is a great guy, but this is not the same as cold clocking your girlfriend.

Belichick was hit with a $500K fine. |
Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
I am not condoning his actions or his character but seriously all he did was push her head. What did she do to him to provake him? If this was not LJ or any NFL star would she have really pressed charges? Sounds like someone was out for a quick buck. I have seen a lot worst in clubs then that.

Thank you I agree. |
Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
has he even had that father/son talk with LJ that he had with pacman? maybe he should if he has'nt? i know these guys get approached by fans, and lord knows women volunteer to do things with them that they would have never thought would be possible, but after you smack a few and get in trouble, should'nt you try to stay away from those places?sometimes as diificult as it is,you have to listen to the big head and not the little one!

Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
Wasn't LJ's previous two chargers dropped?
|
Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
Well, one was dropped because he agreed to do community service
Anyhow, the Chiefs have decided he's not playing this weekend and it's apparently tied to this latest incident |
Re: Goodell Takes No Action on Larry Johnson?
speaking of the chiefs, will edwards make it all season as head coach?

I have a hard time agreeing with firing a coach mid-season, unless you feel like one of the assistants will really do a better job in his place, which is rare (Oakland got wrecked in their first game w/out Kiffin). At the end of the season is when many coaches and their staffs are turned over, at which point FO/Ownership can conduct a thorough search of both pro and college staffs to find the best replacements. Unless a coach has completely lost the locker room (e.g. Linehan in St. Louis), I think you wait. Especially with a guy like Herm who gets along well with players and has proven he can lead a team to the playoffs (albeit not with the Cheifs thus far). That said, I can't see him on the KC sidelines in '09. |
