We need sacks!!
I will give it to Blatche. Who would think our D would be dominating and playing as great as it has thus far this season. But I am at the boiling point on one point of our offense. THE D-LINE sniffing the QB.
Before the season started I was ridiculed by posters and mods alike. But now hopefully they understand my concerns with the D-line. But first I have to give credit to the Defense. They ahve played awesome this year. But their only weak spot is sacking the QB. We are currently ranked 27th in sacks. If we get a better pass rush our defense will be that much better and come playoff time we need to show up and be able to totally shut down average QBs and neutralize good ones. JT has made some impressive defensive plays eventhoughhe has been hurt when he has been int he game he hasn't had sacks. its like him and carter always get pushed to the outside and the QB has a nice pocket to throw. I just think if we start getting more pressure on the QBs some of these games wont be as close and it will minimalize big plays. Which we haven't given up a lot of so imagine. But by all accounts this shows the strength of our DBs who are playing light out. Beside Torrence..lol |
Re: We need sacks!!
What is our record right now?
I could care less if we had zero sacks, we're sitting at 5-2 with potential to go 6-2. I'm happy. |
Re: We need sacks!!
funny how with the exception of the Redskins, the whole NFC East is in the top 5

We have to be on top of our game and be able to stop QBs from making big plays. Even with our turnovers against the Rams costing us a game. If we had had more pressure on the QB on that last drive (and if Torrence wasn't in the game). We might have won. How did the Giants win the Superbowl last year? They went up against a team that seemed unstoppable but with their D-Line they dominated and made the most heralded QB suffer and thus the Patriots lost. So dont think I am not proud of our record. I am very proud of our record and our defense. But to be a elite D we have to atleast sniff the QB more. This has also been a reason for Giants continued success this season. |

We play great coverage and just force a lot of incompletions. I'd love a few more INTs and sacks, but teams just seem to have a hard trouble doing much of anything against us, particularly through the air. |
Re: We need sacks!!
I keep saying it. Defensive tackle is our biggest need. Most here would disagree with me- everyone seems to be content with Golston and Montgomery, but I think our entire defense could benefit heavily from a big, two-gap tackle who can collapse the pocket and get after the quarterback.
This would free up our ends to get sacks and create more opportunities for our linebackers and secondary to make plays. This unit is playing lights out right now no question, but it's scary to think how much better it could be with an elite dt. Oh, and another cover corner might not be bad too. :twocents: |
Re: We need sacks!!
We are 5&2 should be 6&1 but the O turned the ball over and allowed a score. Our D is not our worries right now and have won us several of our games. They might not get the preasue but they sur do knock down a bunch of passes which is just as good and soon should lead to some ints.

Oh, I think the D is putting on the pressure, just not getting sacks. Hurries and knock downs are very evident. Sure, I'd just as soon see the opposing QB assume the fetal position every once in a while, but I've taken notice that our D line is doing a pretty good job putting on the pressure. I'm happy as a pig in a blanket being 5-2 with a pretty good chance of being 6-2. Don't fix what isn't broken. |

Re: We need sacks!!
every pass they bAT down is just as good as a sack for this fan.

We need both. I agree that we need a DT that will put fear in the opposing team, we currently do not have one. But either a CB or DT or both would be great. We have no second round pick. Our second round pick will be retiring after the 2009 season. Very short Redskins career. My main concern is history has shown Snyderrato has never seen a WR or skill position player on offense they did not want to draft. We will probably end up with another draft of Taylor Jacobs, Cliff Russell and Rod Gardner. |
Re: We need sacks!!
Its not about the D being a concern. Its not about not being happy with the record. Its about the team improving on offense and defense so we can make a push deep in the play-offs.
I am thinking about what we need to work on as far as the defensive side on the ball. Imagine how lights out our defense would be if we were able to actually hit the QB more and get some sacks. 9 sacks in 7 games is not acceptable. Maybe things will change once JT gets completely healthy as far as pass rushing goes. But from what I have seen so far. Carter is the only one getting close to the QB on a consistent basis. That needs to change. Its not a concern just an area that needs improvement. |
Re: We need sacks!!
I understand what you're saying. Our defense is playing very well and we are getting pressure on the quarterback and knocking balls down. No complaints. But how many more turnovers and how much more dominating would our defense be with a consistant pass rush that actually sacked the quarterback? I think we'll get more when J.T. gets healthy but it does seem odd not to have any more than we do. Especially with the blitzing we do. Right now I would like to see our passing game open up a little more and I believe in time it will. Maybe this week. But being a defensive kind of guy myself, there is nothing I like seeing better than a SACK.

Re: We need sacks!!
Sure we may not have alot of sacks, but I would like to see an under-apprieciated stat be kept for balls batted down, and by whom. I think that our D would have that stat on lock-down.
But yes, more sacks would be great. To me, for some time now, it appears that the whole batting down passes thing is a product of our coaches teaching this technique. It looks like the D-line has some sort of internal clock that they have. They have only a certain amount of seconds to get the qb, and if they don't they are more focused on getting hands up to block passes. |
