Note — Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Bryan Robinson is among the released players around the NFL that Washington is evaluating, a source familiar with the situation said. Robinson, 28, enjoyed a solid camp and, like current Redskins end Phillip Daniels, has a good relationship with Greg Blache, the former Bears coordinator who now serves as Redskins line coach. Several other teams are interested in Robinson, and his decision could come today.

do they really need this guy?they seem pretty well set on defense imo.

You got to trust the coaches with personnel decisons. If they feel they can upgrade, by all means... be happy for the moves.

Should we really be recruiting that many former bear linemen? I remind everyone that last year the bears got to LEAST number of sacks from the front four in the entire league. I would avoid bear D-linemen.

true nuff.
Evans is a former cowboy with one career sack in 3 years.

EEich 09-06-2004 10:11 AM

If he's better that who we currently have... I don't care where he came from. Blache has a history with this guy and still wants him. If Robinson is a known quantity and someone that Blache feels comfortable working with, it should be a no brainer.

What about Jason Gildon who just got cut from the Bills after signing a relatively big contract? I'm not familiar with him currently, only that he was a decent player a couple of years ago... Is he the type of older linebacker we could use as a pass rush end?

EEich 09-06-2004 10:24 AM

The problem with Gildon is that he probably wouldn't sign for the minimum. Also... the Bills brought Gildon in thinking the same thing... must not have worked.

I was thinking he might be ready to take a little less money since he's now unsure of being employed... I'm not sure how the Bill's d-line is but it couldn't have been too much worse than ours. I'd just feel better if we could get a decent push from our front four instead of relying on LB and CB blitzes 100% of the time.

illdefined 09-06-2004 11:14 AM

we dont need another LB, not even a pass rushing one. we're thick there already, and if speed is a priority then Gildon sure won't have it.

we need to look at any position on the DLine, and any DB.

redwagonskins 09-06-2004 11:14 AM

Gildon can't sign for the minimum until after the first week (i think). He's a veteren that is guaranteed his contract money until then.

PSUskinsfan11 09-06-2004 11:48 AM

I could see Gildon going to the Ravens. They showed interest when he was released by the steelers and now that Boulware is out for a good chunk of the season, I could see them bringing him in. How about us giving Terrel Buckley a look for a Nickel spot.

Well, bringing pressure with the LB's and DB's is what Williams' system is based on. If you look at his Bills' defense of last year they didn't have any household names up front yet they still managed to have an aggressive defensive unit, #2 overall in yards allowed.

They were also tied for 9th best in the league with 38 sacks and were 5th best in points allowed at 17.4 per game.

hmm sounds risky. and obviously why he needs so much speed in his players. wonder what he'd do if he had a killer Dline?
