NFL in 3D

"With sports fans still getting used to their high-definition television sets, the National Football League is already thinking ahead to the next potential upgrade: 3-D.

Next week, a game between the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders will be broadcast live in 3-D to theaters in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. It is a preliminary step on what is likely a long road to any regular 3-D broadcasts of football games."

I can never make out 3-D films in the theatres (I have a strong astygmatism or somethin) and so this would probably just result in blurry football games to me, nevertheless, its an interesting concept.

I happen to like this! Having been involved in & around the home theater market I see this as being quite possible in the VERY near future. If you havent already noticed the number of 3-D movies is rapidly expanding. The major studios have already commited to millions for future 3-D movies ,as they see them as the future of movie watching. Not all, but most recognize that it involves the watcher much more deeply and makes the viewing experience more fun & realistic.
As for football.....I guess we'll have to wait and see.

To anyone who has seen a modern 3-D film (I think the last film I saw in 3-D was Spiderman from the 70's) how is the quality? Is it better than regular HD? Because HD is kinda awesome already.

I saw some demos of this the other day, not football but other sports, and it's unbelievable! It'll kill ticket sales, I'm sure. But it's really a remarkable experience

Really? I guess my image of 3-D is the cheesy red and green glasses you used to get with Slurpees and Mad Magazine. I'll have to read up on this more.

Is this thought of as primarily something for theaters or for eventual home use as well?

Eventually home use as well, but that's a ways away.
