Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
I say bring back FROST! Supposedly Green Bay is dropping him!
McCarthy's day-after press conference: Panthers game - JSOnline McCarthy's day-after press conference: Panthers game By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel Dec. 1, 2008 Green Bay - Mike McCarthy has started his press conference: * Derrick Frost will be released today. The Packers don't even have a replacement ready. That's how bad they want him out. * Matt Flynn will be the holder. * McCarthy said injuries have not been a deciding factor as to the peformance of the special teams * The team will spend a lot of time on special teams this week. * McCarthy knew Scott Wells had a concussion after the fumble. * McCarthy does not regret the playcall to John Kuhn because the linebackers were in pass coverage. * He did think a lot about going for it on fourth down. They would have run it again: same play as the second-down play. * McCarthy said the performance of the special teams has "been way out of bounds" in regards to the other team. * Meeting today will be spent on what has gone wrong. * Ryan Grant is still the starter. Jackson may get some more carries. * Kenny Pettway had a ligament tear and is likely out for the seaosn. * Bigby has a shoulder sprain. * Nick Collins has a hip contusion and may miss a couple days. * I don't think I've ever seen our defense give up rushing touchdowns like that. * "I liked what I saw in our secondary," McCarthy said about Woodson. * Nick Collins did "not make a huge mistake" on the first Steve Smith reception. Looked like Collins jumped a crossing route on the play. * McCarthy didn't want to say whether releasing Jon Ryan was a mistake. "I don't want to go there." * Why are the Packers 1-4 in close games compared to 5-1 last year? "The quarterback is just one position. It's certainly important but it's just one position...I don't recall being in three-point games and having minus-200 in field position last year either. I think it's convenient criticism (one changing QB). I think our quarterback position has played at a high level this season. I don't think it's been a question at all." |
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
I say bring back Frost and try out Tony Zendejas!

Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
No thanks.

Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Wow, they think he's so bad that they'd rather go without a punter at all (for now) than call him their guy.
|
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Nope. I am ok with Plack for the rest of the season, not Suisham, but lack has been fine. Quite frankly, punter is the least of our concerns.

Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Hmm, wonder what JLC has to say about this one?
|
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
There is a reason he was cut by two teams within a couple of months.
|
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
explain to me why in the world you want that bum back?
|
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Our special teams coaches sure know how to bring in some talent. Bravo! Our punter competition this year was between two players that couldn't make a single NFL roster and the replacement Ryan(Value Meal) Wackemeier is just as bad.

Plack is plenty servicable. He'd look a lot better if the gunners weren't allergic to downing the ball BEFORE it hit's the endzone. |

Ya I have seen at least 3 punts that could have easily been pinned down at the 3 yard line or less if not for our gaffes. Heck the one he basically had the ball resting on the 1 yard line before Rock came flying in and jumped on it like it was a landmine and rolled into the endzone. |
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Plac seems a little shaky on the holds for field goal attempts. Other than that, I think he's been just fine as our punter.
Random question: how is it that no kicker has figured out how to be both a team's placekicker and punter? I would think that with every roster spot being so valuable a team (especially one like the Patriots) who try to find a guy who can do both in order to save a spot. Are they really so different that one guy can't spend his time getting good at both? |
Re: Frost AVAILABLE! Who's in!?
Plack is a bit slow, but we just need to make sure we execute protection well and we are fine. Suisham is a big problem IMO, but Zorn said he isn't looking for any competition right now.

Times in the past I think the Skins have had the punter play as the kicker(or vice versa?) when there was an injury. The results weren't too great. But yea I don't see why they wouldn't try to do both. Maybe there is some kind of secret K/PR guild union to maximize jobs. |

I don't expect that even the best kicker could just start punting any time. I'm just wondering if its something we'll start to see in the future. Do you think the secret K/PR guild is in any way connected to the tribe of jockeys that live under most race tracks? |
