A general question for y'all capologists. How are we placed to make some FA moves for next year? Are we too tied up in re-signing folks, or can we be players?

(I am sure it's all right there in the cap sheets, but football math is not my strong suit...)

The key is since (I believe) we can no longer prorate base salary and roster bonuses, and we're currently at or about the cap, every signing we make will likely be accompanied by a salary dump. Springs and Jason Taylor are likely at the top of the list.

Wow, we are stuck with Thomas forever. What were they thinking. I like him, but wow.

is 2010 still believed to be a cap free season?

As long as there is no agreement. I would asume if there is an agreement it would lower the cap ceiling and be bad for the Redskins.

Why we are paying so much money to ARE and Andre Carter is beyond me. Their both serviceable but not worth what we are paying.

5 contracts really stand out when looking at next year's cap vs. the release fee.

We would not get ANY cap relief (in fact lose cap space) if we were to cut Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas, Antwaan Randle El, Fred Smoot and Todd Collins (Collins is actually a wash).

There are other players in similar situations, but these guy's salary vs performance would otherwise make them prime candidates to be released. But, we will have to live with them for another year (in the case of Randy Thomas, he'll be around another 3 years!)

I hope Chad Reinhart is ready for next year, as Pete Kendall is not under contract next year.

I would like to see Kendall come back with another short 1 or 2 year deal. He's still a good starter and he would be good for depth if someone were to beat him out.

Agreed. The perfect situation would be for a younger guy to beat him out but still have him for insurance. He's probably been our most consistent lineman this year.
