Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 18, 2008, 1:03 p.m. Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor wanted to leave Miami and sign with Washington because he didn’t want to spend the twilight of his career on a rebuilding team. But as it turned out, the Dolphins are spending December fighting for a playoff spot, while the Redskins have gone in the tank. And in a sign that the Dolphins made the right move by trading Taylor and the Redskins made the wrong one by giving up a draft pick for him, Taylor himself says he knows he’s not worth the money in his contract. “I’m a realist,” Taylor said today on 106.7 WJFK, per Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “You can tell me the truth, and I’m fine with that. Because at the end of the day, most of us know the truth and sometimes some guys are just afraid to admit it, but I’m not worth 8 million dollars.” Taylor also said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Redskins decide not to bring him back next season, reiterating that the Redskins would be completely justified if they don’t want him back because he’s not worth his salary. Taylor has played in 11 games this year, starting eight. He has 1.5 sacks. Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
I bet he would come back for a short 2-3 year new deal.
Either way, no way we're paying him $8M next year, that's the reality of it and he knows it. |
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
wow thats about all i can say, not many players can really be that honest with themselves.
|
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
At least he's honest
|
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
good man. lets reconstruct the contract and move on with it. next seasons a new one.
|
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
I think this is him saying he would take a pay cut.
|
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
He's already half way there. Part of the 12 step program is admission. lol. As someone stated before ...if he will redo his contract I say keep him and use him to spell Carter to keep fresh legs on the field. Go after another DE to play the other side from the draft. If he's not willing to redo contract tell him to have a nice day.

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
Taylor needs to go he is horrible. Let some young blood step in and prove himself. What a waste this trade was. Tuna most have been so happy when he pulled this deal.

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
We are like Florida to old washed up NFL talent. Come to the Redskins get paid well for the twilight of your career, don't worry no one is expecting you to produce.

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
The Tuna was right and we were wrong. Just another example of why having a top notch guy running your organization is huge for long term success. It must be a bitter pill for Taylor to see Miami at 9-5 fighting for a division crown.

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
Lets calm down. Jason Taylor had a pretty bad injury this year. If my memory serves, he played pretty well the first couple games. Getting some really good pressures on the QB -- then he hurt his calf pretty bad.
I'm more concerned with him retiring than the deal he has here. |

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
You can't just say he sucks. Think about it. He had what looked like a serious, year ending injury. It was a miracle that he's even playing this year.
He then has a couple surgeries on his calf. He's most likely about 50% this season. He's talented and a HOF player. He didn't lose this much in one year. |
Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
Pffftt. Parcells knew JT would be kicked in the leg and get some crazy blood clot that could have ended his life. Parcells is a genius.

Re: Jason Taylor says he's not worth $8 million
does he mean he's not worth 8 million or is he trying to say don't expect 8 million dollar performance out of me. 8 million isn't that much in the NFL anymore. I'm just saying.
