Now I know I am quoting myself which is really wierd but the Haynesworth signing, while exciting, seems to confirm that Dan Snyder has more influence on the roster than we've previously believed, at least for me.

I was under the impression that Danny passed the decision making reigns to Vinny when he gave him his new title last offseason. The timeline of the Haynesworth acquistion makes it seem like Snyder is the ring leader in our offseason circus.


This signing confirms, for me, that Snyder's hand is more heavy than just being the tiebreaker in personnel stalemates. If this is a Snyder decision so you still approve of this signing?

But this is how it has always worked, VC and his team lead the evaluation process and then Snyder leads the closing of the deal. It's not like Snyder woke up on Sunday morning and said I'm going to go have dinner with Chad Speck and get AH.

Everything is set up for Snyder by the time it's time to discuss the dollars.

First let me say I'm wary of the Haynesworth signing regardless of who's decision it was. I suppose you could label it cautiously optimistic. At least there were 5 or 6 other teams willing to throw close to the same amount of money at him. It's not like it's an Archuleta move (making an average player the highest paid at his position when no one else was offering anywhere close to that kind of money).

Second, aren't all of our FA signings ultimately Snyder decisions? IMO we'd be naive to think otherwise. I just can't wrap my brain around the idea of Napoleon Jr. allowing Vinny and the other personnel folks to pursue an expensive player that he didn't want.

vinny was hand hired by snyder and forced on the coaches (marty fired him and that was a big todo for danny).

they talk all the time, he owns the team... i mean, he likes playing with things, but i don't think this proves it was only him in control...

haynesworth was the best player on the market, and i'm sure he said he'd get it paid for if the coaches wanted him, but i'm not sure if he'd continue if the coaches said no thanks, or that guy's a total turd.

and i just called myself a turd :/.

What's worse, quoting yourself to start a thread or referring to yourself in the third person? Paintrain is confused. :silly:

It's been the way it always has. Danny is the closer. Bring him in to finalize the sales pitch, put the finishing touches on the dollars and show up smiling at the presser.

I think having everybody doubt Haynesworth is a good thing though. He is going to want to prove everybody wrong and show that he was worth the money (at least I hope anyway).

That almost certainly defies the NFL rulebook. I don't see how they could be that brazen by having their check signer openly meet with a player's representative in a public place.

That means they had contractual talks before free agency began. I hope all this Snyder dining doesn't result in a penalty from the league.

It shouldn't result in any penalty. For one thing, it happens all the time around the league. Secondly, the rule is more about direct contact with the palyer or an employee of the team (a coach for example). And finally agents and owners/execs get around this like this: The agent does all the talking (that's completely allowed) and the team guy just listens but doesn't make any response until 12:01 am.

We just vaulted our top-4 defense to top-2 (with Steelers since Ravens/Titans will be weakened after this FA) and you have nothing but complaints.

I am concerned though about the all out enthusiasm for the Haynesworth signing. It is far too similar to what happens every year we land the motherlode in the offseason and every gets in a craze and we end up hoisting the Offseason Lombardi in March and spectating a meaningless game in February.

I don't want rationality to get lost among the signing frenzy. My heartrate has been pumping today because of all the huge transactions and it feels like gambling.

Plus it's impossible to prove they weren't discussing other players that the agent represents who aren't currently under contract or are under contract with said team.
