What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
So let's suppose we all agree that there are four positions that need to be addressed Offensive Line, Defensive End, Punter, Linebacker.
And let's suppose we only make one more free agent acquisition and don't add any draft picks. So here's my question: What's the one position you'd be willing to NOT address this off-season? Offensive Line Defensive End Punter Linebacker When I say address, I'm talking about using one of our two picks in the first three rounds or a free agent to find a new starter in 2009 (someone not currently on the roster). |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
Im gonna go with Punter, because as badly as we need a real punter, we need to fill spots at the other three positions even more so. :)
We obviously need help in all 4, and without it, we can look forward to another mediocre year. :( |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
I say Defensive End. I believe Wilson and Jackson could rotate pretty well with Big Al plugging up the middle. I think Haynesworth and Griffin will make the DEs much better. I can see 6-10 sacks from Wilson (seriously, I'm not drunk right now).
HAIL! |

Smith - that's the one FA pick up 2) per all the threads and mock drafts the stud OT's will be gone at 13, and we don't move back because you said no additional picks so we will have to get a LB(Rey) or DE(Orakpu) in the 1st to have a good draft 3) Without Taylor AND Evans, we have to fill the DE in the draft somehow. 4) that leaves OL odd man out playing with an average rightside and above average left if Samuels stays healthy. Now if we alter the rule and make a 2nd FA pickup(which is possible) and get a decent LB/DE then OT can be addressed this year as well. |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
Punter, I'd be happy with an undrafted punter at this point if he's better than Ankle-burry.
We just have to address the O-line in the draft. |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
I dont care who it is, a team should NEVER draft a punter. There are more important positions out there. And plus a lot of the good punters in the NFL didnt even play college football to begin with. They just tried out for the team. A good example is Brad Maynard with the Bears. The Redskins should now know first hand never to waste a pick on a punter.

The "Wife of Indra". I just cannot get into that one.

Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
Not sure if I understand the question but my next FA move would be Hunter Smith- punter. My next move would be to get on the phone with Evans agent and get him back here. In the draft I would go after a OT. So I guess I'm leaving out the LB position this season

Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
With the given criteria I went with OL. I think we can be decent with a starting OL of Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Thomas, Heyer. It's hard for anyone to pinpoint a game where Heyer killed us, not so hard with Jansen.
We need to address punter, that's been a problem for years. We need to draft either Orapko or Malaugua (I'll learn how to spell his name if we draft him) to play LB. We need to address the DE position. |

Basically, let's assume we are adding four new starters (Punter, Offensive Lineman, Linebacker, Defensive End) but we only have three opportunities to find new starters-players not currently on our roster-one more free agent acquisition, 1st round pick, 3rd round pick. So there is one spot where we'd have to say well let's just stick with what we have and worry about it next off-season. I would say Defensive End myself. The market is kinda bare now in free agency and I don't think there's anyone great in the draft. Guys like Orakpo, Maybin, Brown, even my main man Barwin, are more like 3-4 hybrids. I think Tyson Jackson would be the perfect addition to our team but 13 is too high for him and he won't be there in the 3rd round. Plus, as has been mentioned previously Haynesworth's presence should make things a bit easier for the likes of Jackson, Buzbee, Wilson. Also, we could see some situations where Haynesworth himself lines up at defensive end because of our relative depth at DT and his talents. |

Tough thread. Haynesworth would be interesting at DE |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
Safety, WR, QB, WR, RB and oh yeah...WR
I just read the original post so I am a little off base here (sorry Smoot) Did I mention that I don't want another wide-receiver? |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
DE. Resign Daniels or Evans and there ya go. A line of Carter Griffin Haynesworth Daniels/Evans is fine

But then you're addressing DE, because neither one of those guys is on our roster right now |
Re: What Position Would You NOT Address This Off-Season
I cant believe I'm hearing anything but Offensive line..This team fell apart last yr because they couldnt score(ie the OL couldnt hold up at the end, even Portis suffered at the end of the season..When you have a good OLine you have a good team..period
Sacks can be manufactured(ask Greg Williams) |
