Pro Day
I just quickly read over the Pro-Day article on the NFL site. There was a Center from TCU that looks like a steal. Other teams were mentioned. The Panthers are at Arkansas's Pro-Day. I didn't hear about anything the Redskins though? Perhaps some you other guys know about what the FO is doing and who they're looking at?

Re: Pro Day
What's your question exactly?
|
Re: Pro Day
I was just wondering which school we we're at and who we were there to see? I'm trying to get an understanding of who we're looking at.

Re: Pro Day
Isn't Alabama pro day today the 11th?

Yep. |
Re: Pro Day
All I know is that that Oklahoma's Pro-Day is today and I didn't hear about us being there? With Duke Robinson and Phil Loadholt there I don't understand why we wouldn't be?
|
Re: Pro Day
Is he is a "steal" today...some 7-8 weeks before the draft then he isn't really a steal.
|
Re: Pro Day
I haven't really kept up yet.
I know for sure we went to Rashad Jennings pro day. And we talked to Maualauga, Matthews, Cushing, Oher, Beatty, Orakpo, A. Smith, Nic Harris, Patrick Chung, Cody Brown, and um one other person, Aaron Maybin maybe, at the combine and/or senior bowl? |
Re: Pro Day
I want loadholt, so the redskins better be there

Re: Pro Day
One source told the Chicago Sun Times that Alabama OL Andre Smith was impressive in position drills at his Pro Day.
Despite negative reviews elsewhere, the source said he'd still be surprised if Smith fell out of the top ten picks. The source added that Smith was not winded after drills, despite a report that he looked overweight. Next time Smith runs his forty, he'd probably be better off leaving his shirt on. | 3/11/2009 4:12:00 PM Source: Chicago Sun Times Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post believes that Andre Smith may fall out of the top-ten picks in the draft following his tumultuous offseason. It's worth noting that Smith measured 6'4/325 Wednesday -- the lightest he's been in three years -- but still only managed a 25" vertical. The leap helps measure athleticism and Smith probably doesn't have enough to stay at left tackle. He may not even go in the top 20 if teams think he's a guard. Source: National Football Post Alabama OL Andre Smith was "visibly overweight" at his Pro Day Wednesday, according to Profootballtalk.com. Terms like "not overly impressive," "rough," and "he bombed" are being used to describe Smith's effort. Teams will go back to the tape to evaluate Smith's junior-year performance before risking a high pick on him. Source: Profootballtalk.com |

Re: Pro Day
What about film of him actually playing in games? What if we judge him on that?
Nope, you're judged on whether you show up to the combine where you don't plan to work out. |
Re: Pro Day
I understand that a player should be judged on how they play on the field, but come on, the combine IS a pretty big deal in a players process of being drafted into the NFL. We're talking about gaining or losing, MILLIONS of dollars. You can't get motivated for that? What else are you not going to take that seriously? There are a lot of judgements to be made for a young man after gaining millions of dollars. One would hope that his decision making improves in the future, and it may, then again, this could be a sign of trouble.

Re: Pro Day
So he's a kid in his early 20's who made a mistake, albeit a big one, and he's "slacked off" in preparation for an opportunity only a fraction of 1% gets! This is what happens when you mix immaturity and talent into million dollar decisions! We have a vetteran officeive line that wont let an immature kid dick around...draft him...if he falls to the thrid! If we trade back and acquire a second rd'r then snatch him with either the either of the first two picks. Timing of drafting him will depend if there's a run on tackles in the first! Then lets pick an inpact LB or DE with the second and third, assuming we are able to trade back!
What about film of him actually playing in games? What if we judge him on that?
as a rule i agree. but this was this kids big show, and he was really out of shape. the workout was like a job interview. would you show up for an interview in jeans, with P.B.R on your breath? we are talking about a big time investment here, worth millions. and he didnt see it as being that important |
Re: Pro Day
He said he looks up to Chris Samuels. Bring him in and let our vets tutor him. Samuels won't let him be lazy. Look at Heyer, not to say he was lazy, but he was a frumpy looking fat dude his rookie year. Last year, he still looked odd, but was alot more in shape.

Re: Pro Day
SS did you ever find out if the skins were at OU's pro day? I don't see why they wouldn't, OU has lots of prospects to choose from
|
Re: Pro Day
Smith is definitely raising questions about his viability as a top 10, or even, our pick at 13. But let's not get carried away about how fat he looks. If anything, what that says to me is that he's not very aware of how most everybody doesn't want to see his fat jiggling, but it doesn't mean he can't play LT!

Re: Pro Day
Just be careful with putting too much stock in great workout warriors because that's what you'll get. A player that loves to workout more than he loves to work and play. We don't want a bodybuilder, weightlifter, or track star - so don't look for one.
Most players become busts because they were chosen mainly based on stats, workout measurables, and physical attributes (and on a few great moments). And not mainly on how they played. Most recently for the redskins, Adam Archuletta. |

You are right about the fat. But don't forget that he missed his last college game because of disciplinary troubles. So he missed the bowl game, then the combine, then was unprepared for pro day...this is a bad run of events. If he can't get his act together with millions on the line, what will he do with guaranteed money already in his pocket? As for Skins attendance at pro days, my understanding is that scouts split up and cover at least most of them. Just because the presence of a big FO name is not reported at a pro day does not mean that two Redskins eyes are not there. |

Re: Pro Day
I just watched the LSU Pro-Day on NFL.com. Those guys looked good. I've heard that Tyson Jackson DE is being considered by the Skins awhile ago. Herman Johnson G dropped about 30lbs to 350 something. The one that I think that we might be able to get that I really like is Quinn Johnson FB.
We could use another FB. I don't understand, with Washington being a power running team, why we don't have a power runner? CP is a edge slasher. He can run up the middle but he just doesn't have the bulk to get three to four yards up the middle when they know it's coming? Why do we not have a Brandon Jacobs or Marion Barber to punch it in. Everyone know that these guys are up the middle. The question is can you stop them? Why we don't have a Quinn Johnson blocking for big Mike or vice versa is beyond me. |
